Even if we lose to UK, we will have same conference record as last season

11-7
So with Martin and Mickey we went 11-7 and with Simmons (and others) we will have gone 11-7. Difference from last year to this year is this year's team miserably failed in OOC play where as last year's team went 11-2 in OOC play which is why we are on the outside looking in bubble wise.
Just get that feeling this is our ceiling under Jones and that's the scary part.

Looks like it's the best JJ can do.....watch some of the better programs and see how they run a system. With average players, a well run, effective system can produce good results. Put top notch talent into that same system and you have great years. To me, LSU just goes out and plays whatever.

Last year's team was more talented and yet people expect more from this one...for one reason, Simmons
The expectation of a dominant force wrecking shite on offense is what many expected, what they got is a jack of all trades that quietly and consistently puts up impressive numbers on a weekly basis. They got a guy that as a freshman could immediately step in and take the place of an experienced NBA ready junior/senior...but he can't replace two of them
That being said, there is no excuse for what happened in Tennessee and Arkansas. So realistically this team could be outperforming last year's team; however, to blindly expect and assume that they would like many of us were earlier in the season seems a bit naive

We were a much younger team this non conf go round, no Hornsby and Victor either, that was the difference
Martin and Mickey were both soph with a year in

You sure about that?
We also gained Victor, Blakeney & Sampson; only lost Martin & Mickey. Seems like we are more talent this year than last if you only subtract Martin, Mickey and Odo while adding Simmons, Victor, Blakeney & Sampson. Certainly more depth. Plus you have ER III, Malone, Quarterman, Patterson, Epps, Bridgewater, Gray & Hornsby all with an extra year in the system.

Interesting comparison. If Hornsby and Victor were available all year we might be talking an essentially equal team.
In my opinion, Mickey and Martin were underated.

lets get to the crux. all the this guy/that guy stuff is great but.....
last year we had rim protectors........this year we dont. pre conference Simmons was our post presence bc victor wasnt eligible. This team was sparsely talented pre conference.
Mickey was/is the difference. he altered half of the shots in the paint

Still trying to feel better about those terrible losses then?
Even in the NCSt. game, we had a 5 pt lead with 2 min. to go and we find a way to blow that.

quote:perhaps I was being shortsighted and should have said the the combo of talent/health/balance last season is >>> this season
You sure about that?
One advantage I see is that Keith Hornsby was healthy last season, he is probably going to end this season with about 200 points less than last season. I also do not think quarterman improved to that significant of a degree from last season to this season.
Blakeney is a trump card though,Wish it wouldn't have taken him half a season to begin to realize that talent and contribute to a significant degree
Simmons
Quarterman
Hornsby
Blakeney
Victor
Mickey
Martin
Hornsby
Patterson
Quarterman
I think I would take the combo of Hornsby/Martin/Mickey last season over any 3 player combo you can make from this season's team
