do you know how easily a 4 digit pin can be brute forced? you remove the self destruct feature and i can get in that phone in less than 10 minutes with open source tools.
I'm aware, but if the self destruct feature can be removed on an existing phone already, then doesn't a flaw already exist?
ETA: Apple should clarify if they're saying they will not help the FBI find a backdoor to the auto-erase feature OR if a backdoor to the auto-erase feature does not exist in the first place.
If it is the latter, no big deal. If it is the former, then that is a problem IMO.

Its already been stating that the feds just want Apple to help them unlock this ONE SPECIFIC phone. Apple is such a hypocritical company.

This does not give the FBI a God key for apples encryption methods. This will allow the FBI Unlimited password entries. That's it

anything can be done when you own the source code. doesnt mean its a good idea

wont this just work for this one OS version?

I'm glad you believe what Obama says.

Still the phone running ios9 does not matter bc the FBI is not asking to extract files from a locked phone.
They want user access using a modified version that gives them unlimited password attempts with apples signature. That's it.
And in the other cases, Apple actually helped extract files from a locked iphone

From what I understand, the FBI just wants to hand it over to company and have them make it so that they can try as many password combinations as they can without being locked out. They don't want apple to hand over any software. Apple is just showboating.

My question is what happens when this exploit leaks out to the open web? Will the FBI take financial responsibility for massive financial losses at Apple?

you make it sound like one is better than the other. removing that feature is basically the same as decrypting the phone for the FBI, which apple cannot do.
everyone knows that without that feature that phone can and will be brute forced and unlocked real quick

That's bullshite. At worst, Apple will simply expose a way to get into the phone that hackers may discover and utilize.
this... they want apple to write an exploit for their own OS. no software company in their right mind would ever do that. not one that cares about security at least

no they didnt.
everyone in this thread needs to read up on asymmetric encryption before they post any more trying to pretend they know how this super top secret encryption stuff works

are you kidding me? whats the difference between handing me an unlocked device and handing me a device i can unlock on my own in a matter of minutes or hours?

Your paraphrase here isn't exactly what you said before.
Asking apple to break their encryption which they developed is completely different than exploiting a huge whole in the security measures of older iphones. Security measures does not equal encryption.
