So a multibillion dollar company with a serious image problem takes a huge step to clean up that image. Wtf is the problem? If you're convicted a beating a woman or raping a woman, they won't consider you for the 1st phase of the job interview process. Wtf is the problem? Wanna work for our company? Don't beat women. Seems pretty fricking logical to me. But wtf do I know?

quote:it's more of a line to cross than a level. They've established the line @ DV. Any separation beyond that is irrelevant. They didn't include murder in there, but it's implied.
Why is domestic violence consider the same level offense as a sexual assault? That makes no sense.

depends on how the NFL wants to look at it. Is it charges
It doesn't depend. Arrests can't be used to take employment actions.

Yeah I don't get the outrage, but
the NFL lacks consistency

From the EEOC:
quote:
Difference Between Arrest Records and Conviction Records
The fact that an individual was arrested is not proof that he engaged in criminal conduct. Therefore, an individual's arrest record standing alone may not be used by an employer to take a negative employment action (e.g., not hiring, firing or suspending an applicant or employee). However, an arrest may trigger an inquiry into whether the conduct underlying the arrest justifies such action.
In contrast, a conviction record will usually be sufficient to demonstrate that a person engaged in particular criminal conduct. In certain circumstances, however, there may be reasons for an employer not to rely on the conviction record alone when making an employment decision.
Several states' laws limit employers' use of arrest and conviction records to make employment decisions. These laws may prohibit employers from asking about arrest records or require employers to wait until late in the hiring process to ask about conviction records. If you have questions about these kinds of laws, you should contact your state fair employment agency for more information.

Aaron Hernandez was booted before conviction, wasn't he?

His situation was governed by the CBA. For instance:
quote:
There is language in the Collective Bargaining Agreement that allows teams to nullify contracts and recoup bonus money in the case of incarceration or other off-field transgressions
Since AH didn't miss any time because of his incarceration, he didn't have to return his signing bonus money, for instance.

yeah, I'm not really seeing the logic in this decision. These players have already been punished likely by both the state and by whatever team they played for. Now, the NFL is potentially trying to cause further detrimental damage to these players' future for conduct that occurred when they were not part of the NFL.
That's what I don't understand. You're giving a platform to current players to continue playing, yet the new guys don't even get a shot to get noticed at the combine.
Although I'm not a GM/scout, this has discriminatory practice written all over it. Plus, not many teams would take a 1st/2nd round chance on a guy that wasn't at the combine IMO

I think that is exactly what you would sell to the employer. You are reformed which is the goal of prison.

So if you wanted to fulfill your MYPLAYER MADDEN fantasy of joining your favorite team, pimp-slap your g/f, call the police on yourself....sign a 1 year deal for $1M/yr.
Then once you're on the Cowboys where you've always wanted to be, you can re-sign with them at the original rookie pay scale rate for where you would've been slotted in the draft.
Genius!

My friend got arrested 2 years ago and can't find a job because of background checks. He's still awaiting trial btw. Companies have told him straight up we can't hire you because you were arrested

They realize the only growth they can get is from women so they pander to their issues. Like changing the Rooney rule to also include a woman as well.

The NFL is turning into competitive ribbon dancing.
