Dollywood opens in March
My dad said he went to Paula Dean's restaraunt at The Island and said it was very good
Apple Barn
Crockett's in Gatlinburg (breakfast place, closes at like 1 pm highly recommend)
Cade's Cove (closest you will ever get to a wall hanger buck)

explore cade's cove, numerous trails to hike, huge arts and crafts district, clingmans dome (it will be cold,be prepared),take the short drive thru wears valley to townsend and eat at riverstone grill....yes pigeon forge and parts of gatlinburg are "touristy"...but you are not limited to that.there is a lot to do.

kind of a long drive, but head over the mountains to Franklin, NC. There is a little gas station in the middle of town called Hot Spot, it has a restaurant attached to it called Caffe REL. don't go on a Sunday or Monday.

Take a drive to Highlands from there and check out a nice town instead of that redneck hellhole that is gatlinburg/sevierville/pigeon forge.
Sounds good.

Leave.
Go to Asheville instead.
Profit.
ETA- Hope you like pancake houses, outlet malls, and old time photos shops.

Not really a fan.
I do however like badass cabins, drinking, and hot tubs, which is the main reason I'm going.

Yes. I enjoy it.
Not as crowded as somewhere like Disney. More laid back approach to an amusement park.
Has an old Opry-Land feel to it, but in the mountains.

I live in WNC and my wife and I make the short trip there to do just that. Get drunk, get in hot tub, frick, repeat. It's always a good time. I would skip Franklin and go to Murphy/Hayesville. Much closer and NO tourist bullshite to deal with. Go eat at Doyle's in Murphy or The Copper Door in Hayesville. The Daily Grind is a great place to eat in Murphy, but the coffee is much better at Corner Coffee.

Drive over to Cherokee for the casino.

Have you been to Caffe REL? Go...
Plus the drive from Franklin to Highlands is incredible if you haven't done it.

I was in Gatlingburg in mid July. There's this old saloon on a street of mud where you can play poker. Saw an epic fight between this dude and his dad.

My family had a house in Highlands growing up and I now live outside of Hayesville. Yes, I've been. I would not drive 5 hours for it
Franklin has been overrun with meth heads and STD's. Historic Franklin now has a historic drug problem.

We go to Gatlinburg every summer. We found this REALLY COOL camp site that has cool scenery. It's in Elkmont, TN, about 30 minutes from gatlinburg. You drive through the Smokies and it's an awesome place. It's an old mining camp where the cottages still stand today. I'd pack a lunch or bring something to grill (they have charcoal grills all throughout the drive there)Check it out in the link
