instead of worrying about LSU's QB's you should worry about A&M's defense.

Brandon, with a little more experience and a lot of help from his coaches, is going to get it done

Another "Let's bash Les Miles thread"
I know you get your rocks off spouting off the company line, but I can assure I AM NOT bashing Miles. Every sane person on the planet that follows college football can clearly see what our problem is and has been for years. Pointing out the blatantly obvious is not, nor will it ever be "bashing."
QB play is the achilles heel of our program and it is most definitely hindering the progression of our teams year in and year out.

I know you guys hate to admit that Chavis actually knows a thing or two as a DC, but he does. I'm not worried about our defense at all in fact. Our offense is terrible.
You can't argue that LSU hasn't focused on DT-QBs who have mediocre HS stats indicating that they need more polishing and work on accuracy. It is what is. We have our own issues, but that doesn't negate the truth.

During this same time span, I wonder how many Louisiana Tech QB's have gone pro?
I'm telling ya that mid major QB's wind up better ones because they are at mid- majors.
Their teams do not have the talent to be competitive running the football; hence, they air it out.
They then lose a few games; and although the QB is better off the team is worse off

This year alone we went after Shea Patterson, Feleipe Franks, and Dwayne Haskins.

Can't isn't the right word. Jarrett Lee in 2011
It took 5 years, 5 YEARS!! before Lee was game manager good. That's incredibly insane.

Zach Mettenberger in 2013
A JUCO that wasn't good, again, until his 5TH YEAR!, 3rd in the LSU system. Do you see the WRs he had to throw too? Put it just in the range and they had the ball.

Brandon Harris to a degree in 2015, and presumably Brandon Harris in 2016 have been able to handle the offense and operate in an efficient manner.
There wasn't much development at all. He was an early enrolle and has spent two springs in the system. The most he improved on is his weight and knowledge of the playbook. Hopefully he improves next year, but I'll hold my breath on that one.
Can't may be a strong word, but having to wait til their last year before they produce is ridiculous.

Recruiting and/or retention of quarterbacks have been an issue. Starting with Ryan Perrilloux getting the boot, Jerrard Randall, Hayden Rettig, and Stephen Rivers transferring for an opportunity to start, and of course Gunner Kiel spurning us at the 11th hour with a 280 lb "quarterback" as the contingency. These are what has held the position and this program back.
Not just that, evaluation of those QBs are a bigger problem.
Randall was awful in a spread offense in Arizona, Rettig was beat out by some terrible QB from the same class as him at Rutgers, Rivers looked awful with Vandy and transferred within a year. Having a 280 lb QB as a fall back plan for a guy who already decommitted once, is pretty irresponsible.
No it starts from who we recruit and then goes upward. I mean we initially recruited Prescott as a TE, but before we had a chance to actually want him at QB, poof, he's gone and admirably stays committed to Miss St. He then goes on to setting records left and right having the best starting career at Miss St ever, with leftover recruits from other SEC schools as his teammates.
quote:
I like what Cameron is doing on the recruiting front. Swing for the fences with guys like Brandon Harris, Shea Patterson, Feleipe Franks, and Dwayne Haskins, and if you can't pull this in, get an unheralded guy with untapped potential like Justin McMillan and Lindsay Scott
You like struggling to recruit top QBs then settling for your least wanted option? I mean it was pretty late in the game when they were offered. McMillan was offered damn near November, and Lindsey wasn't officially offered til a couple days ago but we only kept in touch with him as a fall back plan prior to Haskins going to Ohio State.
Don't get me wrong, I think both Scott and McMillan could do something good for LSU with a change in offensive philosophy, but don't pretend you like the shite show recruiting that Cam has done at QB.

The bolded sections Harris accomplished this year. Brandon needs to spend the offseason working on his accuracy, which in turn will allow the coaches to trust him to throw more often..... having our 'usual defense' next year will also be a help, because I don't know if you can call what we've seen the last three years a typical LSU defense.
Actually no. 1.5 TDs is 18 in 12 games not 13 (which is a big difference). 179 passing yards per game is not 200 yards per game. Harris' s YPA dropped like a lead balloon in the month of November and it was only saved going under 7.5 ypa because we played one of the worst pass defenses in the country in the bowl game. His ints went from zero to at least 1 every game for the final 5 games.
In his first 8 games he threw the ball 147 times, his last 4 games he threw it 129 times. He threw a combined 86 passes and 595 yards in a two game span during the last 5 games. That's nearly a third of the year's attempts and more than a quarter of the year's yardage in 2 games we lost by 17 and 21 points. They waited until our run game was stuck in mud before deciding to try to throw the ball. By that time it was no use.
The best passing we've been able to do is chunk it up and hope for the best. It worked vs USCe, Florida, and WKU giving us a false sense of hope.

What they hell are you talking about? Who gives a hot shite about mid majors and NFL? Look at UGA and Bama for instance. Bama runs a system where every starter is at the very least a game manager. Then you have guys like McCarron who average 9 yards per attempt and put up 30 TDs and Blake Sims who throws for 3400 yards and 28 TDs while also running very effectively. UGA was QB heaven for Richt's tenure. David Greene, DJ Shockley, Matthew Stafford, Aaron Murray, Hutson Mason, crazy.
Why can't LSU run successful pro style offenses like they do? Hell even Arkansas had Mallet and Wilson and then Brandon Allen the last two years.
Think of LSU with a successful passing game to go along with the usual successful run game and defense. It makes the run game better and keeps the defense off the field longer.

Of course not !!!!
Miles just makes all the decisions. Makes the most money.
Why would anyone even hint at suggesting that Miles should be blamed for the QB situation at LSU?
Football made $19.7 million last year. It's all about the money !!!
Who cares if we win or lose? QB's come and QB's go. Get with the program dumass.

I love Les but yes. He is absolutely the one to blame.

Two part:
Louisiana doesn't produce many top flight quarterbacks because most high school quarterbacks and offenses are based around the best athlete on the field. These players normally transition to a skill position at the next level. We've probably had more LA high school quarterbacks play WR and DB than QB.
Les Miles can't get any top flight quarterbacks because he is not known for being able to develop one. Since we do not get these qb's, we are forcing ourselves to be a run heavy offense. This is only reaffirming Les' belief that nothing is wrong with his offense. You want to blame every OC brought in, but Les is handpicking every one of them.

It's LSU so yes it's always the coaches fault.

maybe a bit off topic, but note the following:
McCarron: started as RS sophomore - national championship
Blake Sims: first year starter - SEC champs, made playoffs
David Greene: started as RS freshman; as RS sophomore, SEC champ
Stafford: started as true freshman; true sophomore won Sugar Bowl
Aaron Murray: started as RS freshman
Young and/or inexperienced QBs can play very, very well.
