Slams coaching and unwillingness to take shots by Simmons LINK

quote:

In the final 10 minutes of the biggest game of LSU's season, Ben Simmons did not score a point. In the final 4:48 of a game that could have solidified the Tigers' shaky NCAA tournament hopes, the likely No. 1 pick in this year's draft did not attempt a shot. In the final 2:56 of a game billed as a duel between national player of the year candidates, college basketball's most coveted prospect never touched the ball beyond mid-court.

quote:

Whose fault is Simmons' crunch time disappearing act? Some of it has to fall on him for his passivity. Some of it has to fall on LSU coach Johnny Jones and his staff for their inability to get the most out of Simmons.

Only stating what LSU fans have known from game #1. Simmons has one thing on his mind and it's not LSU.

he has a "superstar" on his team that cant be counted on. would be kinda tough to draw up plays around that

The stupidest thing ever is people blowing Kruger for his last play "Hield as a decoy." JP is one of our better defenders and was all over cousins, he just hit a contested, isolation, mid-range jumper. It wasn't some fantastic play.

Let's face it Ben Simmons isn't a superstar yet, he said yesterday he was going to take over the game pre game.

When it all counted he passed it up again.

sometimes it's hard not to think this team would probably be better sans Simmons

Just states that LSU really needed this game and in the last 10 minutes Ben Simmons wasnt involved offensively at all.

Butt, anyone who coaches against Johnny is a genius and Johnny does absolutely nothing good.

Yes gray our current weakness is that our best player is afraid to be the best player.

Johnny really is terrible. He's a train wreck in game. He better hope he holds on to Blakney and Quarterman because next year could be awful for him with the mediocre recruiting class he's bringing in

The gymnastics team finished second to OU as well yesterday. Does that mean DD can recruit but cannot coach. Should she be fired

I didn't like Johnny Jones as a player and he's worse as a coach. It's his job to scheme to get the ball into Simmons hands, and it's clearly his job to call a time out with 3 seconds left to plan the final shot.

Body of work, my friend. It's not just this game with Jones. We've seen terrible coaching many, many times since he's been here.

"his job to call a time out with 3 seconds left to plan the final shot".

That would be an assignment for Blakney, he's got the quickness, and elevated up enough to get a shot off. When he gets older and more confidence in his shot,He will be winning games in the last few seconds. Right now who you gonna call?

It was a great play call...faked the on ball screen which caused Patterson to pause for just a second... that made all the difference. With that being said Patterson recovered best he could and contested the shot but the extra space allowed the hooter a much easier look than it would have been.
