I went to catch a perfectly average Delta flight out of AEX Thursday and right as I got out of my car I heard one of the loudest sounds I've ever heard. Finally I saw a military plane in the distance, and right after it was airborne it looked like it was flying straight up. Amazing to see. So what kind of plane did I see? F-15? How often would one of the planes be flying out of AEX? What is the military/civilian relationship there at this point? What is left of Barksdale? It was cool.

Well, Barksdale is still a major player in the World theater with it's B52 bombers. It's in Bossier City btw. England AFB was in Alexandria. I remember that A10's were prevalent there. If it goes zoom straight up, it's some sort of fighter jet.

All kinds of military hardware stop over there, the barbeque joint next to the Cracker Barrel by I49 has its walls covered with squadron patches from aircrews that have eaten there when stopping over.
