Have been to Martinique, Caymus, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Nevis and St. John is my favorite for sheer beauty, snorkeling and nice people.
Any interest in St. Barts? It is the place I want to go most in that area of the world, but you don't see too many people talking about it round these parts.

St Barths is awesome. It's also quite expensive. Restaurants are very good.
To the OP. St John would be a fantastic choice. VRBO a condo at Grande Bay and you'll be right in the middle of Cruz Bay steps from Beach Bar and the rest of the town and restaurants.
Rent a dinghy one day from my friends Joe and Kim at Noah's Little Arks and tool around the island. Tell them King Bill sent you.
Then day trip to Jost, Virgin Gorda and try to get to the Willie T on Norman Island for an afternoon of extremely rowdy fun. You can't hit all three in a day trip. Just some suggestions.

St. Barths is phenomenal. In former life, spent a good clip of time in the BVIs, which I personally think are better than USVIs. However, the real joy of the BVIs are to be found aboard a boat. A week spent cruising from island to island will reveal all the beauty and glory of the Caribbean.
Now there are a few more resorts than in times past. Norman Island and Peter have nice resorts now. As far as food, its not great. But there was an awesome French spot/bar in Road Town that reminds me of the N7 place everyone was dissecting earlier today. But really you arent down there for food.
Now food in the Caribbean, St. Barths wins by a nautical mile.
