How much would Nintendo benefit from general expansion of its int. properties?

I believe Nintendo's current president revealed an outline just recently of their business plans and it did include things like future anime, theme parks, and commercializing more of the different franchises that maybe aren't as popular as Mario and Zelda.
For those in the know, Fire Emblem could benefit from this SO much. If you play the games, you'll know the CG cutscenes in that game are GORGEOUS. Its a perfect setup. But what do y'all think overall? I mean, Nintendo is practically Japan's virtual equivalent of Disney.
By the way, how you guys doing tonight? Idk why I'm asking but today's been a good day so what the hell.
*intellectual property
Definition: Nintendo's (among others) individual game franchises.
Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc. are all exclusive to and created by Nintendo and are therefore their intellectual property.

i dont even know what that means.
But i am a huge Nintendo Fan Boy, I love my WiiU, and Zelda is my absolute all time favorite gaming franchise.

I think it's a no brainer those IP's will make money for them outside of games.

If it didn't work for Final Fantasy it won't for Fire Emblem, much smaller fanbase and IP. Plus you have the Xeno series which is arguably more popular and also owned by Nintendo.
Also Disney is huge in Japan, probably bigger than Nintendo but I'll have to get some numbers to back that up.

Hmm...would a Nintendo Universe series of films akin to the MCU catch on? Do Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc. as standalone franchies then make bank with future team-up films?
I don't know. It sounds stupid. Standalones might work though - I'd go watch a Metroid movie.

Mario already had a movie. There have also been Mario and Zelda cartoons. I don't know if Nintendo owns Pokemon but that is still huge worldwide in games and cartoons. There was tons of Mario merchandise in the 80s and there's tons of Pokemon merchandise now.

Pokemon ownership confuses me
The Pokemon IP is own by the Pokemon Company
The Pokemon Company is owned by 3 companies equally. Nintendo, Game Freak, and creatures inc
Game Freak develops the majority of the games\creation of new Pokemon and Creatures inc develops the card game as well as some smaller Pokemon games.
Nintendo does not own part of Gamefreak or Creatures ink. Neither was listed as being 100% or partially owned by Nintendo in its shareholder meetings.
Nintendo most likely has some legal agreement in place to prevent development for rivals consoles and handhelds.
Imagine if Game-freak chose to develop pokemon for the Game Gear and formed the pokemon company with them. That might of single handily changed Sega's fortunes.

Sega
SEGA has such a bad reputation these days, I don't think they would be successful if GF gave them their entire Pokemon franchise and all its rights. They're better off just merging with Nintendo.

Disney is exponentially larger and more widespread than Nintendo. Lets not forget that ABC, ESPN, Marvel Studios and Star Wars are all under Disney's umbrella. And thats just the off the top of my head.
Nintendo would be better served by bringing their online features into the 21st century

If Sega merged with Nintendo and Nintendos next gen system had all the Nintendo platformers combined with Sega platformers and rue virtual console option I'd die from over fapping

I can't imagine that Nintendo wouldn't make more money if they stopped selling consoles and made Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc... for the PS4 and Xbox

How about they just make a new fricking metroid, kid icarus, f-zero, and quit wasting time on remakes

Supposedly there is Nintendo World in the works at Universal Studios Florida

All they need to do is one thing:
License PS and Xbox ports of their big name titles and stop making anything but hand held consoles if they can't get on board with keeping up with the joneses.
I would love to play every Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros and Metroid game that came out, but I won't spend $600 to have a console, accessories and games that I play 4 times a year for a few weeks at a time at best.

A couple of years ago people said that was a terrible idea. A few terrible wii u years and people are ready for them to just make games

I've been saying it since the Game Cube finished its run.
I bought a Wii when they came out. After about 2 weeks the gimmick wore off and I sold it. Wasn't worth keeping for 2-3 big games a year IMO. So since then I have just written off Nintendo as a whole.

Their consoles have been on a slide since the n64,wii was the exception.

I don't think anyone saying that in this thread actually said the opposite up to last year or so.
People saying either A) Don't own a Nintendo Console or B) Own a Nintendo console + something else
Nintendo would make far less money and have far less control over their properties. They'd be chasing pure revenue and that's just bad design.
It's pretty simple: Nintendo makes hardware that supports their game concepts. That is how it has always been. That's what drives them. And I, personally, don't want that to change. Does it lead to weird choices or potentially unsustainable ones? Sure. But it also leads to brilliance. They couldn't do what they want to do on an Xbox or PS. People think they can, but they don't get it.
I'd guess if they ever did this, there would be a huge drop in quality when they don't control the vertical.
And I'd also say that most likely BEFORE that point, these people who want Nintendo games would nearly always side with the latest CoD release rather than the Nintendo release. They think they want Mario, but they really want FPS Shooter #2,000. Just like plenty of good games get lost in the shuffle on the Xbox and PS because of big event releases.
Splatoon would never survive on the Xbox or PS. Never. And we probably wouldn't have it without the gamepad, like it or not. And that's one of the best thing Nintendo has done in 10 years.
