Slayden's BBQ
Please don't call that shite BBQ.
OP your best bet probably is the Mexican place or drive over to Mer Rouge and eat at the hot dog stand by the railroad tracks

Does Bastrop still smell like a huge giant fart?
The mill closed, bunch of guys either went to Crossett or Graphic

Fart smell left with the paper mill. So did whatever money was there. Which made it worse of a shithole than previously. Slayden's is under new ownership for the first time since the 60's and is putting out a better product. Revamped the beans. It's not bad que and has a good burger. The Mexican place sucks and can't keep up when they get busy at lunch. But I think they do ok when they're not busy and that's your only option for a drink w/ meal in town. Grannies is greasy buffet food. Which may work if that's what you're shooting for.

Also the Cheveron by the Snyder Museum has an outstanding heat lamp game and Krispy Krunchy chicken.

This depressing thread makes me glad I've never been to Bastrop
I lived there as a child when my dad worked at the mill, it was a decent place to grow up in the 80's, most of family still lives there. But now, It is a complete and utter shithole. It's depressing just driving thru now, especially knowing just how far that place has fallen.
Fiesta Linda's
Slayden's
Granny's Buffet
PT's Eat a Bite
those places are about your best bet to get a half decent meal. I pity that you have to be there

Do the new owners still provide a slammin arse pie and potato salad that'll make your toes curl? I used to love their sliced pork sandwiches for some reason. Dad and I would always get one after a fishing trip to Bussey, coming home from the woods, or just meet for lunch when he was at the mill.
Did Granny's close?

They still do pies. I can't vouch for their slammingness since the new people took over cause I've yet to have a piece. But they look the same. Potato salad is still the same recipe and still good. They actually kept the old shitty bean recipe but added an option for "new beans". The new beans are more like Padnuhs and are a helluva lot better. The thin sliced pork loin Sandwich is still money and is what I usually get. That or a half a chicken. If you can get a same day chicken it is top notch. Yesterday's chicken not so much.
Granny's is still there. I don't think it's as good as it used to be. They got all big and franchised out into the Monroe market. When that happened the mama left to run that store and left the hot daughter behind to run the Strop city store. Since then the quality seems to have went down some.

How has no one mentioned the Magic City Grill? It's pretty good for what it is.

Probably a good reason not to mention it then haha
I haven't been over there to duck hunt this year because it has sucked.

A sliced pork sandwich with Slayden's original potato salad, and Podnuh's beans woukd be what I'd imagine heaven to be.
