Without looking at other answers or internet searching:
Carly Simon
Led Zeppelin
Queen?
CCR?
Steve Miller (or The Steve Miller Band)
Men at Work
(ETA: For the record, I knew The Beatles for "plasticene", but somehow omitted.)

Not a bad job.
If I told you #10 you'd go "oh, yeah, that's right."

Yeah, and I'm also there on "gabardine" - only "wuthering" was a complete mystery to me, although, obviously, I get the literary reference.

While I was familiar with her, back in the day, nothing she did ever captured my fancy. I lump her in (rightly or wrongly) with Bryan Ferry as being a "British" thing.

"Don't Push Your Foot on the Heartbreak" was pretty good, but I wasn't a huge fan.
I think Ferry has amazing frontman charisma.
Plus, with Robert Palmer, one of the very few who could rock out in a three-piece suit.

I don't care about popularity, so I'll list songs that I listen to:
Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights
It's "plasticine" and:
Porcupine Tree - Footprints
Reading Porcupine Tree lyrics made me look into plasticine and learn that we got jobbed with Playdough as kids. Salty bullshite.
Jamiroquai - Smoke and Mirrors
Rx Bandits - Dinna-dawg (and the Inevitible Onset of Lunacy)
The Joker - Steve Miller Band
Well, not all stuff that I "listen to," but I do know Down Under - Men at Work
Changes & Space Oddity - David Bowie

Interesting submission... Porcupine Tree is borrowing lyrics there from a much more famous group and song.

Pretty sure that was the point. The writer, Alan Duffy, was narrating a psychadelic experience that had found inspiration from Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
