Ok so I got an Xbox for Christmas and I haven't really played in probably 2 years. I set it up and the initial download took about 2 1/2 hours. Now I'm trying to download cod and it is at 62% after about 3 1/2 hours. Why is this taking so long? My mbps is around 5 download so it shouldn't be taking THIS long. I read something about turning wifi off on the Xbox and it makes it faster but it just stopped my download. Any help is appreciated. I'm about to say frick this and return it.

Don't sign in. Do it initially to get the download going, then sign out.

Well, if you're not hardwired, turning the wifi is a terrible idea.

ok ok I know that sounded retarded but I really feel out of the loop after 2 years of not playing. It used to just be put the game in and play. I tried to read around on other boards before coming here to avoid sounding dumb but I couldn't take it. I'm cussing this thing for taking so long. This is insane

Your internet speed is 5Mbps?

So your console is probably pulling 3-4Mbps, and you're downloading a 45GB file in Blops 3?

Go to a download calculator because that is going to take forever with that slow of internet in this day n age.

Nothing you can do other than upgrade your speed if applicable.

It could be the xbox server. Check your speeds on speedtest. Game files are huge now. Black ops 3 on pc was nearly 50GB. It takes a while.

It says my download speed is 5 mbps on the speed diagnostics test. Reading online that seems to be plenty.

Yeah I got to 39% earlier and it let me go into the game. Then it signed me in and dropped me back down to 10% and cut me out of the game. I turned off the console and it restarted completely now it's taking for fricking ever. Never been so frustrated with Xbox. It used to be so simple.

Unfortunately these long download times are just something we have to deal with these days, not much you can really do except be patient. Unless you want to pay to speed up your internet but it'll still take some time

I just accept now that when I purchase a console game I won't be able to play it for 6 hours. Most games today seem to come in at over 20 gigs so it's a lot of downloading/installing/updating.

Just play something else in the meantime.

This is one area where the PS4 really beats the xbox. Even when inserting discs into the console, even when no update is required, it takes nearly an hour to install some games. Install time on PS4 is considerably faster.

To the op, that download is huge. You have the initial game plus the updates. It's upward of 50 gigs IIRC.

Getting games digitally is awesome but this is one of the huge drawbacks. Download times are insanely long.
