...aaaaand then he took Lane's team after Kiffy wasn't even allowed to ride home with the team and went 6-2, including a win against Stanford. /narrative

I agree that he lacks experience as a DC. I'm just not ready to say he will be a disaster.

Does he even want to be a DC?

Promoting from within hasn't worked well under Miles it seems. Especially with no experience prior doing it.

Some say he was too busy being a HC, but still he has never been a DC and has been around for quite some time.. Being a HC is still not the same as being a DC.

So because he hasn't done it, that means he would be a disaster? Makes no damn sense. He is aggressive , he is a players coach, they love him. He would be fine. Your post is a disaster.

Coach O to DC, recruits
Lane Kiffin for OC, both
Are named Head-Coaches-In-Waiting by
Aleva who then Announces a Pay Per View Battle Royale between the pair to take place on the weekend before the first recruiting dead period in 2018.

Book it!!!

There is real risk in promoting O to DC.

I'm not saying that he can't do it. But, he's never done it. And, I just don't know how good he would be at the coordinator level. We know he's an excellent DL coach.

Also, if you promote him, and it doesn't work out or Miles just decides to retire and the new coach wants his own DC, you can forget keeping him through the head coaching transition. That's what is most important IMO.

I'd prefer to double his salary and keep him where he is. It's more important for the long term prospects of this program.

Interim at one and a complete train wreck at the other.

And I love O. Just concerned about elevating him to DC when he's not been one before. Would like a proven commodity.

Of course not. But when a guy has no experience at a job, there's a risk. That's simply a fact.

Just because a coach is good at one level doesn't mean he'll be good at the next level. Again, just a fact.

Oh well if Lane Kiffin thinks he shouldn't be then case closed. Coach O will be a massive success.

Why would he be a massive success?

No one knows what he would be as a DC. He has no experience as one to use a reference.

There's a risk with someone who has done it before as well. That is also a FACT. and just because a guy hasn't done something before, it doesn't mean he wouldn't be good at it, that is also a FACT. See anyone can make general statements.

I want to thank you for not thinking so emotional like many people on this board. Although, I do find the term "Disaster" to be very strong.

Take a look at his player bio on the official team web site. Looks like DC is listed to me. Also he called his own defense at Ole Miss.

It was a joke at Kiffin's expense.

DC in name only

quote:

[Monte] Kiffin's official title with the Trojans was assistant head coach, but he called USC's in-game defensive schemes and led defensive meetings. Ed Orgeron is the Trojans' defensive line coach and holds the defensive coordinator title.

2010-2012

quote:

Clancy Pendergast, who has coordinated some of the top defenses in the NFL and in college during the past nine years, has been named USC's defensive coordinator, Trojan head coach Lane Kiffin announced today (Jan. 18).
