Chicot State Park. You can pick a camping spot that'll include a bar b que pit, fire pit, & a nice set up area. Shouldn't be too crowded during the week, you can pick between the North or South camping areas. If you want to go primative, you can hike in to one of those campsites along the trail. Park is great with lots of trails & a Great Lake for fishing. Plus you can drive into Ville Platte & get the best smoked meats & boudin you've ever had.

My girlfriend wants to get into tent camping, which is cool but she's selected mid January at Chicot to get started. Not booking one of the primitive sites though, let's see how this goes.

You may want to try a drive up site first. Good luck.

Primitive area at Indian creek

I went once with a group. We camped right near our vehicles in tents and I did not see a secluded, primitive type area.

How did this go? Looking to kayak into one of the primitive spots?

Looking into trying the primitive spots this spring. Any suggestions?

I want to do an overnight river camping trip. On my list in the next month or two before it gets too warm

There are a couple on the far end that are out there, but most of it is right on top of each other. It's honestly one of the shittiest state parks I've been to.

How are the Wild Azalea and Backbone Trail compared to Clark's Creek? I'm not a bad hiker, but doing Clark's Creek primitive at a decent clip can just suck the want outta ya.
