Pretty dominant no question, over 3 top 10 teams then destroy #2 UF.
LSU however did beat 3 top 3 teams and dominated 5 top 25 teams including #12 UGA SECCG, of course the 1/9 blew it all up. But a good comparison until that!

Sorry but even with another bama win. I'll take 1995 Nebraska as the best ever. And I don't think lsu 2011 would have beaten 2001 Miami. A great great reg season but that loss to bama has seemed to haunt this program from that point
On.
I think there's a difference between greatest team and greatest season. 2011 LSU accomplished more than any other team. Beat every single team on it's schedule, including Oregon and WV, and every game but one was a blowout.

I'm still baffled as to what happened on 01/09.
Why are you baffled? It's simple. A Les Miles offense does not work against Bama, and this was Bama's best defense under Saban.

It's amazing how one game can affect the perception of a program and coach.
I can only speak for myself, but had we won that game I'd probably view Miles in a very different light. HELL! I'd probably look at him differently if he'd just started Lee the second half. Then at least I'd know he tried everything he could of!
Sadly LSU still hasn't fully recovered from that game, and I just don't envision us ever fully recovering while Miles remains at the helm. I hope and pray that he proves me wrong. I'd be more than happy to admit I'm wrong and eat the fattest crow alive!!!

Was the most talented team LSU ever had. A shame they will be remembered most for that night.

To be fair 1995 NEB did this as well..........
I will say this...IF LSU had close to the QB play NEB did in 2011 they would NO DOUBT IMO be the best ever AND would not have lost to Bama in the second game.........

That was a damn fine LSU team.

I disagree that second game was about motivation and edge. Alabama had every single advantage going into that game. LSU had beaten them once already and shouldn't had to play them again. Bama lost but LSU still had to play another game to make it to the championship. The defense played inspired but for the most part that team was flat as a pancake, I doubt any QB could have made a difference.

Exactly. Montana and Bradshaw could have tag-teamed that Bama defense and come up empty.

If we are honest, we won the first game only because Bama's Kicker missed 5 FGs.

Even though Miles won, it was a foolish game plan. That game plan, against that team was basically a coin flip as to who would win. Assume equal talent with same plan, then see how external factors fall out to determine winner. We won the flip. That's luck. Miles was ready to flip the coin again for the National Championship and Saban said to hell with that, creating a plan where the two sides were no longer equal.

Bama won the second game because Les Miles is an inept gameday coach and JJ was a miserable QB.

It is always difficult to beat a good team twice in a season, even though LSU did that vs. Georgia in 2003.
There is no doubt that Saban out-coached Miles in that game and 'Bama was better prepared. They learned from the earlier loss, making the needed changes and LSU did not adjust or make any changes.
However, I still think Bama should not have been playing that game because they did not win their division and did not play a conference championship game.
Despite all the bad memories, at least this game and the way things were handled, in my view, helped the college football world realize even more fully how flawed the BCS system was to even give 'Bama a chance to be there, and I think, it did contribute at least a little to moving toward the playoff system that exists today.

LOL. The BCS worked the way it was supposed to, in putting the best two teams together. That was a year that Bama and LSU were clearly the 2 best, and there were no undefeated alternatives. After 8 quarters of football there really wasn't a whole lot of doubt who the best team was on both sides of the ball.

We were the best team that year, and the mulligan should be thrown out.
