Lets talk about Garrett Grayson

The Brees plantar fascia has twitter and boards buzzing with people talking about what we will do if Brees can't go. I see a lot of people insisting we "see what we have" with Grayson. This is seriously not an option and I am almost positive this is not what the team will do.
Grayson was drafted with 100% acknowledgement that he was a project pick. He even knew it himself, he acknowledged it in pre-draft interviews. This guy is not ready to start in the NFL. Not even close. There is nothing to "see" - he will just get trashed and everyone would call him a bust, not understanding that he was NEVER supposed to sniff the field in year 1 or even year 2. People were angry and confused when we kept McCown, and then again when we signed Flynn when Luke went down. Unfairly. Grayson was in the MWC last year, he has no idea what he is looking at on an NFL field. He cannot serve as Drew's primary eyes from the sideline. Not yet.
To be clear, I have watched a good bit of Grayson's games from 2014. I like his arm talent and he has solid field vision and decision making. I think he could possibly be something for us down the line.
So, TL;DR; Grayson should not start. It is not fair to him and it will bring absolutely nothing but anger to all of you. If Brees can't go, Flynn should start. Period.

I hate to agree but you're right. Grayson would get killed behind this oline. Not ready

Flynn needs a new contract

I'd like to think fans could be reasonable, that they would realize that our starting RB is out, we have a line that our future HOF QB has trouble behind and a bunch of no-name receivers on a team that has nothing to play for.
But yeah, our fans are the worst and jump to extremes on everything.

I would hope under the current situation both QB's can get some work in.
#2 QB gets the most.
#3 QB gets a little.
#2 QB gets the most.
#3 QB gets a little.

Grayson might accidentally win us a game. No threat of that with Flynn. Start flynn
Posted on 12/22/15 at 5:39 pm to Rand AlThor
Starting Flynn would be idiotic.

If Grayson doesn't play then it means he sucks arse.

He's been with the team all year. If what you say is true and he's still that far from even sniffing the field for 2 meaningless games, then we made the wrong pick and he will never be able to play in the NFL

Both of you are stating complete bullshite

If Brees is out for the next two weeks, I'd like him to get some PT. just to get some exposure to the speed of the game. He won't and shouldn't look all-world. If just like him to get the reps as something to build on and see who steps up around him.

All you need to know about Grayson is that Matt Flynn was picked up mid-season and immediately became the #2 qb. Speaks volumes

If Grayson is not ready to play a game or two in a mop up role this late in the season, then there should be some concern about him. He will not get experience sitting on the bench. Drew is not getting any younger and we do not have a lot of years to find a decent heir apparent.

Because he was a project pick. Say it with me. PROJECT PICK.
You people are ridiculous.
The reason Flynn instantly became the #2 is because the backup QB isn't just there in case the starter gets hurt. They play an integral role in assisting the starter on the sideline during games. This is something a guy like Flynn (and McCown) is good at because he's been sitting on the sideline for his entire career assisting the QB. Grayson was in the MWC last year. He doesn't know what he is seeing on an NFL field, he would be useless for Drew.
But thanks for not reading my post and just instantly replying

Your the first I've heard demand such a moniker. If the Saints FO called him that well and good. If just you then well and bad.

So Flynn or Luke can't assist Drew on the sideline in street cloths? Players that are deactivated on game days are always on the sideline. No reason Payton can't come up with a safe game plan for Grayson. He doesn't have to be a world beater. Flynn is a horrible QB and has been his whole career except for 1 game against New England when he hoodwinked the entire league and got his payday from Seattle. And good for him. But if you are telling me that it means nothing that Flynn was picked up mid season and then instantly inserted into the backup role then you are delusional. I'm afraid it's looking like another wasted high rd pk the Saints had no business making due to all the holes they needed to fill. Hell, Ryan Griffin started a few games at the end of the season and was serviceable. If Grayson can't duplicate that then shame on the saints and their front office

How good was Grayson in college compared to the higher drafted QBs over last few years? I never watched him, did he ever play tough competition, strong arm, accurate, smart, quick release, any of that?

If only there was this thing called Google where you could have looked facts up before looking foolish

you are the one who needs to google. Tell me one thing Matt Flynn has accomplished on the field in the NFL. He was Aaron Rodgers backup for several yrs then signed a big money contract to be the starter in Seattle. Guess what happened there? He got beat out by rookie Russel Wilson and then he was cut. He went to Oakland and could not win the starting job for a franchise starving for a QB. He then bounced around the league as nothing more than a backup. So please tell me why I should use google?
