Is it safe to walk to the stadium from any of the hotels within a mile of the stadium?

Yes.

Get a parking pass! Getting to and from the Wisconsin game was an absolute nightmare and something I'll never do again. Taking tram there was ridiculous and then after the game there was a line a mile long waiting for cabs. I'll never go to another event there.

stay downtown and take the tram or a taxi to the game. nothing anywhere near good by the stadium

This is a really bad idea.

Just ask anyone who did this for the Wisconsin game last August.

We stayed at a hotel that was a 10 minute walk from the stadium, and would never ever stay downtown again.

Yes it's safe but I wouldn't do it late at night. Another option is to stay in the Theatre Dustrict and take the train to NRG. That area is fun with numerous pubs and resturants. I've stayed at the Magnolia on Texas Av. There are many options in that area. I would feel safe in the Theatre district than I would around NRG.

Any LSU fan that travels to Houston and relies on über or the rail after that debacle against Wisconsin last year is asking for trouble.

I wish I could up vote this X100. The Metro was a cluster F after the Wisconsin game.

Stayed until the end of the game. Was seated in the upper deck and exited on the west side of the stadium. Walked to the train station, was in my room at my downtown hotel less than an hour from leaving the stadium.

We're staying at Crowne Plaza near stadium. It can't be worse than staying on Canal in NOLA and I've stayed there many times. I wouldn't worry about it.

It'd help to know what you do/did.

Stay downtown and take the train to the game. Its the safest transportation. If its a close game and everyone stays until the end, it may take a while to get a seat in the train on the way back.

I live in The Woodlands and would never suggest staying by the stadium. It's a lot more fun to stay downtown and party on Main Street or take a cab to midtown. On game day take the train, which goes along Main Street, straight to the stadium. I wouldn't recommend walking around the stadium on non game days, but on game day you'll be fine.

I just canceled a room (two doubles) at Holiday Inn NRG (next door to stadium) if anyone is interested.
