Bill Gates is super rich because he stole the idea of Windows from Steve Jobs. And Steve stole the idea from Xerox. So really Bill would have that sh*t coming.

Disingenuous argument if the person you have borrowed the dvd from has purchased it, thief. But go ahead and rationalize it as you like, thief.

bullshite argument. Movie has been through its period of first release and is now in DVD. DVD was purchased. It would be no different from me borrowing it from the library or watching it at the purchaser's home.

On the other hand...copies (screeners) of mivies just being released are being sent to critics, VIPs or award voters and are hitting torrent sites and people are downloading it rather than paying to see it in the theater, or by ing the Blu Ray or DVD later.

Theft.

So, do you use Spotify rather than purchasing the actual, physical copy of the artist's album? Spotify takes the earnings and redistributes a portion of the earnings back to the artist.

It is hard for me to believe, in this day and age, that anyone has never cheated, stolen or done any immoral thing, whether noticed or not, to any one person or entity. So, for you to sit on a high horse and claim people that download movies are thieves, maybe you should look in the mirror?

thats what they did when i downloaded new albums at least

But Spotify does, in fact pay the artist and the artist, if they don't like the terms can have their stuff removed from Spotify, so it is also not the same thing. Unless you are streaming from a site that is paying for the movies.

Then by all means continue to knowingly and purposely download illegally gained material for your own use. But hey, it's all innocent if you want to make it out to be. Here are some other groups you may want to defend and/or align yourself with.

Perhaps you should get off of your "high horse".

It's harder for filmmakers to exploit their work outside of exhibition profits like musical artists, some of who are able to tour and sell merchandise.

oh wow this turned into another "stealing" thread

was it stealing when we allowed numerous people over the years to come over and watch our stuff or "borrow" our dvds/cds?

there are fair use acts and whatnot.. any ways, the exposure actually helps these movies regardless. more people talking about it the better. they will still make their money.

i don't agree with profiting off of content though. i do believe that is wrong and should be prosecuted.. but sharing.. meh..

but to each their own.

Probably not. Whenever Leo puts out a Oscar worthy performance, there is always another performance that is just a little bit better
Well he's the clear frontrunner this year though. I think it's his year.

they can down vote all they want.. but if they are crying about this, then the same principle should apply. they should never ever go to someone else's house and watch content that they never paid for for free.. they should also never ever borrow dvds from anyone.. because they should be required to pay for the dvd's themselves.

and don't give me that, well someone paid for it. still multiple people are leaching off that content.. that one time purchase is preventing so many others from purchasing.. they really should get off their high horse. exposure is always a huge benefit. it's still mega advertising. the movie industry doesn't seem to be hurting one bit in today's digital media times.
