re: Statistically, Cam is nowhere near the MVP

I think you are putting way too much faith into Derek Anderson's ability and downplaying Cam Newton's contribution to this team.
I don't think Derek is a good QB and I wasn't trying to say Cam is overrated either. It was more of a statement on how much better the Panthers are right now than the other three.

Part of what makes Carolina's defense great is that Carolina runs the ball well (which is partially because of Cam) and They don't make many mistakes, forcing teams into longer fields. Carolina's receivers suck mind you. A non mobile threat at QB with these receivers would be a disaster waiting to happen.
Fair point. Also, I think the leadership factor goes a long way with his teammates (defense included).

Other quarterbacks get garbage time passing yards cause they suck all game and are losing in the fourth.
This couldn't be further from the truth for Brady. Additionally, he is the statistical leader in almost every QB category right now.

He's 26th in Pass yd/gm. 8th in QB rating. He is first in rush yd/gm and TD for QB's, but even if you add his rushing yards to his passing total, he'd be seventh behind guys like Bortles & Matt Ryan.
So is his MVP status solely on the undefeated record? I'd give his 3rd ranked defense more credit than him for the record.
I'm really not trying to hate, I was just surprised, as I thought Cam was much higher in the stats with the MVP talk.
So you win games by scoring yards?
Good to know...

I used to be a hater, but Cam is ridiculously valuable for reasons that transcend traditional statistical measures. His running ability is very important to their moving the chains.
I would personally favor Palmer this year, but can understand why people are arguing for Cam.

Put down the Stat sheet and watch a damn game. Newton has been phenomenal all season
Posted on 12/14/15 at 1:21 pm to UncleRuckus
He has been, but he also benefits from an unreal defense that has forced 33 turnovers this season

Brady has had the better season for sure, but Cams team is undefeated which will play a huge role in this. Legit chance at 16-0
Brady has been consistent all year, but has dropped 2 games. And Cam has been much better in the second half of the season compared to the first half. I get why he'd win it, although I'm not going to say he's up there with the elites; Rodgers, Brady and Brees just because of one season.

This thread isn't about Tom Brady nor did I mention him. This thread is about diminishing Cam's stats and trying to compare him to Matt Ryan and Blake Bortles. Obviously Cam is not the passer that Brady is but his combo of passing with the running is what makes him great. Plus just having a quarterback like Cam opens up the run game and makes it easier on the defense. When your offense has the ball a lot and controls the game it is easier on everybody.

Sure it is. He's an MVP candidate. You didn't start the thread either
Posted on 12/14/15 at 1:28 pm to TigerBait1127
Not really. This thread is about diminishing Cam by bringing up stupid stats.

It's about comparing him to other MVP candidates.
Damn those facts!!!!!!

You ever think Cam has less passing yards because his team is ahead and doesn't need to throw as much?
Good point. Bortles and Ryan both have over 100 more pass attempts this season.

So MVP is whoever has the most pass yards? Who decided that?
What Cam does on the ground is worth a lot more than passing yard stats. The dude is killer in short yardage/goal line situations, not to mention defenses have to change their entire gameplan to guard against him running. They also control much more of the clock which only feeds their defense more. He is the definition of mvp. Now if you want to say Brady is having a great year than I would agree but to say Cam is "nowhere near the MVP" is ludicrous.

Lol stats do not tell the whole story. Jesus do you people even watch football. Also if you wanna bring up Brady, he may not even be the most valuable player on his team cause he lost to the Eagles without Gronk.

Who made that argument?

Brilliant logic
Here would be another dumb statement an idiot could make (similar to yours):
Cam may not be the best player on his team because the defense shut Atlanta out. They could have won with Anderson

Also, I can't tell you how many incredible passes Cam has had that have been dropped, namely by Gin.
Can you also not tell us about the shite load of wide open guys he's thrown absolutely terrible balls "to?"
ETA: Didn't take someone long to downvote the truth I'm not saying he isn't the MVP, but if you want to bring up drops, I'm bringing up the duds he's thrown too.

Oh my god they won 38-0 and were up 21 in the first quarter. It's not like they won 3-0 or 10-0 with a defensive touchdown. What about the Seattle, Green Bay, and Saints games? The defense sure didn't shut the other team out.

so you're saying he's not very valuable to his team because the rest of it is good enough without him?
How are you judging the Carolina Panthers without him?
Carolina established the leads with him.
And the running game goes with him.

I literally said it was an idiotic argument and you went on a rant

ok? Who has said he hasn't played well this year?
Glad to see that your only criteria is Wins
Oh and the Carolina D forced 5 turnovers in those games.
Seattle only scored 23 points. Cam had 2 interceptions too in Carolina territory.
If that is your definition of bad defense
