Recruiter or technical coach

Would LSU fans give up these recruiters for guys that actually know x and o s? How more games could these guys win with fewer high profile recruits as a top five coach? Give me the expensive game coach over ANY LSU recruiting coach any day any time !!

You need to do both
Look at teams that win championships
it isn't one to the other
its both
Nick Saban isn't suiting up walk-ons
Neither is Coach K or Cal

You simply must have talented players in order to contend. That said, I'm always amazed at how a program like Navy is consistently good enough to go bowling and can generally stay with a national powerhouse instead of getting blown out. The players don't go there so they can play on Sundays.

Hmmm, not sure. But I bet they would love someone who could start a decent thread on the Rant.

It ain't about the X's and O's, it's all about the Jimmys and Joes.

A really good coach will know his strength and weakness. Jones must know he needs technical help coaching this team. He needs to find one now and step back.

Honestly, if I had to have one or the other, I'd definitely take the recruiter. But you can have both.
I wish he could recruit better big men though. We play four on schollie that we can barely get a rebound or blocked shot out of.

The thing about being great at ANYTHING, whether it be coaching, your profession, etc. is understanding your weaknesses and working to to get better at them.
Johnny Jones is a good recruiter, but has lower skills compared to other college HCs on the technical side of the game.
The thing that really irks me about these good recruiters is they won't let go and let the people run what you've hired them to run.
Recognize your flaws, and let someone come in there and help you get better.
And JJ is not doing this. He and his team make the same mistakes game after game, which means he's not fixing the problems in practice because he doesn't know how.
