Can't call them, the long distance charges would be too expensive .

They're all gone now
My maternal granparents, Mamaw and Papaw
My paternal grandparents, by their first names. I don't remember how that even started, and nobody else does either. They were very formal people, and it was uncharacteristic, but I did.
As for my parents, the grandchildren call my dad by his first name. My mom didn't want to have a nickname, she requested that they call her Grandmother. Kids will come up with their own ideas, so we didn't think it would stick, but it has.

I think Paw Paw, Maw Maw is a NOLA area thing. Or is it a -all of Louisiana-, thing? Does yankee La. call them, Paw Paw, Maw Maw?
Baton Rouge?

Mawmaw and pawpaw. But it's pronounced more like muhmaw and puhpaw. Or popaw. Idk

I'm from BR as are both my parents.
I think it's just gonna depend on each family really.

Not a NOLA thing. Definitely all across Cajun country. My parents were MawMaw and PawPaw. I can't speak for North LA.
