Oscar buzz for Stallone's Rocky in the movie Creed. Supposedly a "total hit"

movie review
quote:
Two weeks ago I ran into “Rocky” producer Irwin Winkler at Michael’s, and he told me that Sylvester Stallone would be nominated for Best Supporting actor in “Creed.” What he didn’t say was that Stallone might very well win.
Stallone won nominated for Best Actor for playing “Rocky” in 1977. (Peter Finch won for “Network.”) He has never been nominated since then. But his work is so good now as the boxing coach for Jordan’s Adonis Creed, Stallone is very likely to sweep in and surprise everyone. (This would be bad news for the many other potential nominees from “Spotlight” and other films.)
quote:
“Creed” is a total hit, a must see movie for Thanksgiving weekend. Coogler is 29 years old and this is second movie, after the wonderful “Fruitvale Station.” Not only has be brought Jordan over from that film, but he’s incorporated Stallone, Rashad, and a terrific cast in a movie that feels deceptively like comfort food but is really haute cuisine.
quote:
In “Creed,” Stallone plays [Rocky] without any mugging or some of the tics that afflicted [him] in the later movies. He’s unadorned, unsentimental, and fully engaging. He deserves all accolades.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this. It is a perfect idea for a reboot. Rocky training Apollo's son is just a great idea, far more so than Rocky V or Rocky Balboa. I think it could be really great.

Rocky V shall not be spoken of.
Rocky Balboa was actually really good.

I laughed out loud in the theatre at this part:
yo, don't just got some rights or something.

I can't wait until Creed IV when they box against ISIS to end the Middle Eastern conflicts.

Creed V will be a punch drunk Apollo Jr taking a young fighter under his wing. That fighter becomes radicalized and defects to ISIS, taking the title to the Syrian desert and taunting the boxing world via grainy videos.
Apollo Jr is out there on a USO tour when the base comes under attack and who does he see among the attackers?---His ex-protege! They square off in a sand dune where Apollo beats his arse and takes the belt back to the USA. The young fighter gets AIDS.

I thought the same thing. Content wise it wasn't bad. But the spelling and grammar is atrocious.

Just got back. The buzz is legit. Really just an outstanding film.

Stallone is a really talented filmmaker. He somewhat sold his soul in tne 80s to be the world'is biggest action star and it hurt how people perceived him. And his career suffered, at least critically. But he's borderline brilliant.

I think people forget because how "B" movie level the sequels were but the first Rocky won both the best picture and best director Oscars over stuff like Network and Taxi Driver.

Just saw it. I was skeptical at first because I thought it was going to be just a retread and rely on old Rocky references.
Creed was an amazing movie and totally worth seeing it in the theater. The fight scenes could not have been done any better. 9/10

Simply outstanding. And Jordan really does look like Apollo at certain times.
