I hear you dude, Just saying I don't use metal under a stick of firewood I'm splitting. I don't use wedges either.

I am in Mandeville. There is a about a 16" diameter tree down in my neighborhood. Just waiting for someone to come cut it up.

Anyone know where i can just get a piece of an oak trunk?
I thought I was clear . . . from an oak tree.
I would suggest a wooded area would be a good place to start.

Green leaves. Drive down the boulevard, on the right if you are coming from Lonesome.

Im in St Amant, we just cut down a large oak. Have about 20 pieces still sitting in the ground some as large as 36", some as small as 15".

I hate splitting on ground. Maybe my soil is softer than most, but it truly sucks. That little bit of give makes a lot of difference.

Not really, I want to be able to also chop smaller pieces with a hatchet into certain lengths. Just kind of a fire pit work top.
Gotcha. I was just thinking how awkward it would seem to me to try to split wood at that height. Wasn't thinking about smaller pieces or soft soil.
