An OT PSA:
After coming home Friday, my answering machine had a robocall message from the IRS threatening a lawsuit. Today, 2 calls to my cell phone. I encourage you all to disregard. Tell your moms and your grammas and yo grampas too! Don't be a victim. Hang up on these Microsoft wannabes!
Back to work.

My understanding is that initial contact from the IRS is always by mail. Never phone calls or e-mail.

You're correct. Be good to check in with your older relatives.

I got a message on my cell today. The dude knew my name. He could barely speak English. It began with: "This is Kevin Brown from the department of legal affairs." Apparently, this is all over.
How do they know the name attached to a cell #?

My dad (70 years old) fell for this and called the # back. He proceeded to get in an argument with the guy in the scam call center. The call escalated to my dad daring the phone guy to come to his house so he could "whip his arse". The guy replied and said "I don't need directions. I have been to your house many times to poke your wife" My dad lost it and started calling every branch of law enforcement he could find.
It was a funny story but it was my dad and he was upset.
Those people are scum

I picked up one of these today and
If the IRS is gonna call looking for taxes they aren't gonna use a robot.
