There's lots of ways you can accidentally pull the trigger. Safeties help prevent that.
If you were sticking a shield back in the holster and something got wedged on the trigger just right than you've just shot yourself in the arse.

Can be the case, but that's why you practice with it.
This argument isn't gonna go anywhere thought. Can any of yall recommend a good inside the waistband holster? Willing to spend some money for something functional and comfortable.

I really love the action of my P2000 LEM since it has no safeties whatsoever, but it has a hammer that you press with your thumb while holstering or drawing. The trigger can 'cock' the striker mechanism, but it's connected to the hinged hammer. It's cocked with the hammer down, but it's got a lighter full pull to fire. I don't explain it well, but after researching all pistols it seemed to be the most fool proof...mostly since your thumb rides the bobbed hammer and it absolutely won't fire without it cycling.
