Bill Curry, Alabama. Alabama had share of SEC title in 1989 and he was still fired. If memory serves correct he never beat Auburn while at Bama or only did it once. On way out, Curry claimed he got death threats and a rock thrown through the window of his house.

Curry was never accepted by a lot of people at Bama for myriad reasons, but mainly because he had no connection to Paul Bryant. I think he's a decent man and cared about his players but he never was an elite coach. The fact he wasn't popular to begin with, coupled with his inability to beat Auburn, proved to be his undoing. He wasn't exactly fired. He was being pursued by Kentucky and realized there were some people in powerful places who would never have his back so he cut his losses, went to UK, and Bama told him not to let the door hit him in the arse. Gene Stallings was hired and was a definite upgrade. He went 70-16 from 1990-1996 and won a NC in 1992. He left because Bama hired an idiot AD that he couldn't co-exist with. Stallings remains beloved in Tuscaloosa. Mike DuBose took over next and Bama began a slide into a decade of mediocrity highlighted by NCAA sanctions and coaching carousels.
Be careful what you wish for LSU fans....Miles surely needs to make some changes but he has won a LOT of games since 2005. His teams always seem well prepared, the last 2 weeks notwithstanding and 1-9-12. But who knows, LSU put Saban on the map, maybe you'll catch lightning in a bottle twice. Or maybe you'll sink back to the Stovall, Archer, Hallman, DiNardo era.
