NBA - Is Western conference dominance over the East finished?

The East is currently 21-17 vs. the West. Comparing the records of similarly seeded teams (1 seed vs. 1 seed, 8 seed, vs. 8 seed) shows that the records are pretty similar, if not identical. The East has had some surprise teams play well, but also some teams that will likely play much better as the season rolls on (Washington, Boston, both 3-4).
In the West, surely Memphis and Houston will pick it up. But Minnesota, Denver, and Dallas at 4-4? How long can those teams keep it up?
Has the East caught up? Or will Western Conference dominance return as the season progresses?

There was some decent discussion of this in one of the recent warrior threads. I think LE made the point that 4-5 of the west playoff teams will be worse than last year, yet I also agree with another guy who said their lower tier playoff teams would still probably contend in the east.

West is still a lot better.
East has beaten up on a depleted Pels and terrible Lakers (6 of their 21 wins).
East is also 7-0 vs Philly, West 1-0.
Stats are skewed this early. Also, Warrios and Clippers have combined to only play 1 game vs the East.
I do think the East has improved more this year than the West, but is still way behind.

seeds 2-8 are not real contenders. I would love for the Hawks to be a threat but the Cavs handled them pretty easily in the ECF. Same with Chicago.
I'd say Golden State, Houston, LAC, SA, OKC and probably Memphis would all be considered major contenders in the East. That's the difference. The back end teams in the East are playing better ball but they don't have any true contenders outside of Cleveland.

I get what you are trying to say, but I don't think you can bash the 2-8 seeds in the east, then with the same breath say that Houston and Memphis would be contenders in the East. Both teams have looked mediocre coming out of the gate.

This. The East has drastically closed the gap, and may even win the regular season head to head, but in playoff series, Cleveland is the only team that would consistently beat the class of the West. Miami would get waxed as they have no depth and Wade is broken. Chicago might if Rose could find the Wizard and ask for a heart. Every other team is getting better, but lack a superstar and would have a tough time overcoming the mental challenges of a competitive series.

Houston is a postseason kinda team, they don't get excited for regular season matchups except on the rare occasion when they play a team who is their equal. They haven't had much of an issue disposing of both OKC and LAC early this season.

Houston is still gelling. After starting 0-3 they've gone 4-1. They will be fine.
Memphis has not looked great, I agree, but I still think they would pose a bigger threat to the Cavs than just about every other team in the East.

Mope through the regular season to 55 wins, get it tuned up about a month for the playoffs. Win a couple series and then see what happens in the WCF. That's the blueprint.

Sorry to break it to ya bro but HOU has nothing to prove to anybody in the regular season.

If all youre doing is looking at your fantasy team at the end of the night you may not be pleased with what you've seen in the box score..HOU will be a better team this year when the playoffs start than they were last year... Just like they were better last year than they were the year before that...

it's not over but its catching up. after the top 6 teams in the east(CLE, MIA, CHI, ATL, WASH, TOR) there rest are still pretty bad.

If they scared you offensively, maybe. It's otherwise hard for me to be that sold on them.
