what? I never hated on the parkways

Shreveport is fighting right now about the I-49 connection about whether to loop it or cut it right next to downtown
I'm all for the loop because all interstates do is create more blight when they cut through cities
Where Shreveport is wanting to run I-49 is already blighted.

I have no idea why Shreveport is determined to make those same mistakes
I don't get why they spent so much money in the 90's on a 200 mile stretch of interstate only to cut it two miles short. It would have been much cheaper to build it then than it will be in the future.
The best thing for Shreveport traffic is for 49 to be completed. I am tired of having to drive through downtown Shreveport to go everywhere.
And we are talking about a freaking ghetto and a bunch of Swepco waste land anyway.

Hey Salmon, got any recommendations on running trails in Shreveport?
Betty Virginia Park in South Highlands has a pretty decent path if you don't mind staying in a confined area.

and with an interstate running through it, that is all it will ever be

I'm all for development. But progress has to happen also.
I love the proposal for downtown Bossier City and I hate that Whole Foods wound up in south Shreveport instead of the original proposal which was downtown.
Hopefully Shreveport will get their crap together on the whole Shreveport common thing also.

here is a good article illustrating what I have been trying to say

Between the 1950s and the 1980s, cities across the country undertook massive freeway construction projects. In many cases they decided to run the freeways straight through downtown, bulldozing thousands of homes and businesses in the process.
At the time, this was seen as a sign of progress. Not only did planners hope to help people get downtown more quickly, they saw many of the neighborhoods being torn down as blighted and in need of "urban renewal."
But tearing down a struggling neighborhood rarely made problems like crime and overcrowding go away. To the contrary, displaced people would move to other neighborhoods, often exacerbating overcrowding problems. Crime rates rose, not fell, in the years after these projects.

While I see the merits to both sides of the I-49 ICC in Shreveport it may come down to money. If you connect the 2 parts of I-49 you only have to build a 3 mile stretch of interstate.
However if you decide to "Loop it" and convert 3132 and 220 into thru interstate road as now I-49, it will take more than just throwing up new signs. The current roadway would need to be expanded and that would mean a whole new cloverleaf at I-20, something would have to be done about the nearly 90 degree curve on eastbound 220 at I-20, as well as a new bridge over Cross Lake.
In the end, money may determine the outcome.

In the end, this is what they have to work through. That is why I think if they built the interstate through that area, it would need to be below grade. Keep/reconnect the established street grid and let the freeway be secondary.
Something like this (proposed in Birmingham)
Essentially, that is also what is going to need to happen in BR, at some point in the future. You know, once they fix the existing infrastructure we do have (new bridge, expansion of existing interstate, etc).
Edit: More examples and link:

Yeah investors really want to pour money into developments right next door to a 600 person section 8 complex (fairmont).

Do you peddle to work? Just curious

I think it is foolish from a convenience and ease of traffic point of view not to connect the two. Progress is progress. Sometimes in order to make an omelette you have to break a few eggs.

This would be workable to get the interstate through the area. The two existing cross streets could be maintained and the abandoned fields and overgrown lots can live to wait until they were ever developed. Probably only looking at relocating a handful of residents who probably are mostly living in rental houses if I was to guess in that part of Allendale.

Actually the ICC is the ONLY way that these blighted areas get revitalized.

That might explain why it hasn't been funded yet.
Honestly, the best chance of any gentrification is in Bossier City. They are really going all out with a new downtown.

I thought all they really had was the boardwalk area around the casinos. It seemed to me that once you drove past Traffic Street, it goes downhill pretty fast.
Again, forgive me if I am wrong, I haven't been up to the area in about a year or so.

Bossier's proposed downtown redevelopment
No that's not Sodosopa or Ctpatown, it's Bossier City. Litaliano is in the bottom right.

are they any neighborhoods that are even remotely viable to live in near downtown Bossier?
I know they are trying to promote their downtown, but Bossier will always be a suburb city
