I was trying to get some info from a local company not tied to any of the fields listed in this thread. 100% of my work can be handled via scan and email so I don't even know our fax. After three tries from them trying to scan and email me a documents (two blank and one only half), they finally asked if they could just fax it. I went find our machine and sent them the number.

Outlook will encrypt a message. Look under options, more options, security settings.

Much more secure than open email or a fax.

Much more convenient

I know. I get the HIPPA requirements but it's still baffling. In my exact situation, 20 something faxes are just MIA. Where are they? Loose in a trash can? Sitting on a machine? All kinds of personal and medical info out there. How is that secure?

There's a lot of things we have to fax in education for "security reasons". I hate it too. If it was up to me I'd scan and email everything.

Some people are dumb, others just lazy and sloppy. I made a typo in this case because I have fat fingers.

I've been guilty of this mistake. Mainly because when you have to watch the same boring computer module every year for your annual work required crap you start to zone out. Also...I always think of hippo during hipaa training so I just change it to hippa.

cause it isn't spelling, acronyms used in a specific industry by folks that use the fax a lot are usually not that important to others.

add to that when I learned it in the early 2000s, it was referred to as the Health Information Privacy and Protection Act...so in my head it has two Ps...

I don't work in that field any longer. So there is no need for me to care.

so if you wrote down LSU as LUS you wouldn't consider that a mispelling?
