I came here the other night with a picture to identify a dog. I was looking for a boxer. I was able to locate another person who wants to actually give one away (and this one seems to be a pure boxer). The problem is this dog has heart worms. Owner said she got the dog 4 months ago (dog is 3) and the owners before hadn't taken care of the dog. She took it to vet and it tested positive for heart worms. She got the dog up to date on shots but couldn't afford heart worm treatment.

What am I looking at if I get this dog as far as cost of treatment, etc.

Go to the vet. Get a real answer.

I want to say I paid between $350-500, but that was around 8 years ago.

Spent a little over $1000 two years ago getting a 100lb lab treated for them and that ain't counting the follow ups and having to treat him like a king for about 6 weeks

Slow kill method is typically 2 months of preventative & 1 month of medication cycled for at least a year. Make sure that the vet will give you Doxy as the medication & not the generic. Costs depends on weight of dog (dosage). Right now we are paying 50.00 every 3rd month but a friend is paying close to 200.00 (beagle vs lab mix).
