Not all of his games were on TV nationally, but we did get to see the highlights for ones we didn't see and he was spectacular. I remember discussing that if he didn't win the Heisman, they should retire the award. Tim Brown won the year before mostly on preseason hype, the fact that Sanders was not by far the biggest margin of victory speaks to that.

Tim Brown cemented it by his play and the punt return vs Michigan St at night in nationally televised game.

Brown played 4 positions, which is why he won it.

I think he was only on TV on the east coast once before bowl season. I remember they would always cut in to show a highlight of Okie St, and he'd be doing something amazing, but that was it. But I think Bedlam was the only time I ever saw him.

College football was more of a newspaper sport back then, and I remember sitting at the kitchen table on Sunday morning, looking at his amazing numbers in each box score. I do remember some talk that he really wasn't that good because the Big 8, outside of Nebraska and OU, was lousy and OSU lost to both of them.
