Has the 7 yards short been discussed?

With victory in hand and minutes on the clock LF was given the last actual play from scrimmage. After his last run LF finished 7 yards from the single game record. With time still on the clock and yardage still available LSU went to victory formation and finished the game.

What is the Rant's opinion on this...

I was a little surprised he came back in and got the last few carries he got honestly.

Fournette should be mad at the WRs for not lining up properly on his 80 some yard TD run...

If he'd gotten hurt on that play it would have broken the internet.

Yeah that was some BS. Catch those dudes in the corner of the locker room and wreak mayhem

He had those yards, but had two big losses. Get over it.

I was pissed he was carrying it on the previous play. Who was it that got hurt at the swamp in a similar situation? Addai?

Way worse, Lord Saban, who can do no wrong btw, had Matt Mauck in the game with 7 min left and a 24pt lead over Florida. Matt tears his achilles tendon on a simple QB keeper and LSU basically fell apart with Randall at QB for the rest of the 2002 season.

Why give him the ball to start the drive only to take a knee after that? It kind of pissed me off honestly

ETA: He shouldn't have been out there for the initial handoff it the intentions weren't for him to get the record

That is my thoughts exactly. Don't send the kid out there to start the drive and be successful then freaking kneel

At that point I truly believe Les was concerned Leonard would break one to the end zone and it would reflect poorly. Trying to break a record is one thing, running up the score is another thing entirely.

I didn't see any reason to have him run and take a chance on an injury when the game was iced.

It was a 10 point game, taking the knee when they did was fine. Win games not records.... and you don't run just to get the record...

I think had the team not committed so many penalties (whether or not you like Ritter, many of our penalties were legit) then Les may have let him break the record that game. I think because the team had so many penalties and knows they all are pulling for LF7, he didn't want to allow LF7 break the record in a game where the team overall had so many penalties.

Sort of a mentality like "there's no "I" in "team". If the team played better Miles may have allowed LF7 to get the record that game.

I'm probably wrong but it was just what I was thinking when it happened. At first I was like "wow coach, you're an arse" but then after a few minutes I thought in retrospect it was probably the right thing for a coach to do, from a coaching standpoint.

Risher talked about this on the post-game show. They don't really get wrapped up in all of that on the sideline and Les especially doesn't want to hear that type of stuff during a game. All he cares about is winning the game.

FWIW, I was surprised he was even on the field for the last series. The game was in hand. The record would have been nice but was ancillary at best.

Because we needed a first down to ice the game. Les went to victory formation so that LSU wouldn't score.

He'd rather do it in Tiger Stadium at night.
