Not necessarily. You can call them and tell them you have no idea what the letter is about and ask them to substantiate the debt.
It's best to do it via certified letter though, so you have proof.
But that said, I would just ignore it and only take action if it ends up on your credit report.

Im not saying they'd have a case, just if you call them... They will then have your phone number and the bullshite will snowball.
