When I was a just a high school kids, back in the nineties, I attended and helped run a conference made up of businessmen, organization leaders, heads of govt agencies. ect.ect.
We asked each of them questions to introduce them to the audience - name, age, postion, and for fun, favorite movie.
99% of these people had Dr. Zhivago as their favorite movie. That made quite an impression on me that this must be a classic film.
Now, I love Lawrence of Arabia & Bridge / River Kwai, but just have never been able to sit and watch all of this film.

Except that when Russians see Zhivago, they complain about how English it is. Russians are vocal, boisterous, demonstrative people. In Zhivago they are presented as reserved and stiff upper lip -- like cliched Englishmen.
