LSU 12
AUB 6 F

One of my all-time favorite games! This game came a year after the Jamie Howard Interception game, a game in which LSU allowed four defensive touchdowns.

In the first quarter, Howard hit Nicky Savioe for an early touchdown, the only touchdown of the game in fact. LSU would later add an Andre LaFleur field goal, and later a James Gillyard safety. LSU was up 12-3 after the first 15.

Auburn would add a field goal later, and LSU would have to outlast an impressive last-minute drive by Patrick Nix, and it did as Troy Twillie intercepted a Patrick Nix pass with no time left on the clock.

Auburn was ranked fifth in the nation and came in averaging 61 points a game, and the stout LSU defense, led by Gillyard, Northern and Twillie, held the Auburn Tigers to only six points.

Probably the hottest night game ever played in Tiger Stadium, as the temperature at kickoff was 86F and the heat index was 92F and remained that way virtually the rest of the way.

The day I became an LSU football fan. Was the first game I attended as a student my freshman year.

This game was only on Auburn's in-house pay per view if I remember correctly? Not TigerVision?

Got married that night. Several people there had earphones in during the wedding, and one of my best friends missed to go to the game. I was not a fanatic fan at the time, and all I cared about was getting the wedding over before hunting season.
Saw the Saints get beat by Morton Anderson the next day on the honeymoon.

Freshman year, stormed the field, one of my fondest memories in Tiger stadium along with the Florida upset in 1997. That game marked the renaissance of Tiger football out of the Dark ages (Hallman era).

awesome game. my family seats have been in the southwest corner forever.

The last play, when Twillie intercepted that pass in the endzone, there was a brief silence in the south endzone bc both twillie and the receiver went to the ground at the same time. Then the north endzone erupted with cheer and we all knew what happened.

Of all the games I've listened to Jim Hawthorne call on the radio, this is the one that stands out the most for me. Big wins seemed bigger in those days.

It was the hottest I have ever been in my life and that includes jungle training in Panama.

Yes, this was one of most intense games to attend;
bizarre as is, JH almost threw another pick six near the end that was dropped.
The Nix last second pass had winning six point TD all over it and took seemed like an eternity when TT jumped up and snagged.
TS went wild like nothing seen in a while.
The magic was back, but every other week as was the case with JD! Pretty sure the next week was drilled by UF, beat MS, beat OM, lose UK, lose gumps, beat Lil Nicky's Mich St in I Bowl.

I was there too. "Bring Back the Magic" game, and for that you will never hear me say a cross word about Gerry Dinardo. He was LSU football's savior before Nick Saban.

Yes, remember it very vividly. We tailgated on S Stadium across from the dairy, huge BBQ and gang. About an hour before kick off my wife dropped a knife and cut her leg wide open. Absolutely needed stitches. I thought she would divorce me when I told here, someone will bring you to the emergency room, I'm heading to the stadium. She took her ticket with her and hobbled in half way through the second quarter on crutches and all stitched up. great game, Troy Twilly interception topped off an incredible day in Tiger Stadium!
