Q: "Why didn't we pass more last night?"

A: 5.7 yards per carry (47 for 266)
Q: Oh yeah, well what was that stat in the fourth quarter when they loaded the box?
A: 5.8 ypc (17 for 99)
LSU controlled time of possession (33-27) specifically because of the running game. Had they passed more, this inevitably would be reversed. Wanna give MSU the ball for three more minutes?
The game plan was perfect. There were too many penalties. That was the worst thing of the night.
It is ignorant to think that LSU should have passed more, and I'll cite a road win over a ranked conference rival when LSU controlled the clock and gained 266 on the ground as evidence of that.

Not if you pick up first downs...

We also punted 9 times with that gameplan. If we wait until we need the passing game to use the passing game, our Qb and receivers will not be ready for it.

It's not just about passing more. Our offense was so predictable. At least put another wr out there to keep them honest.
I'm as glad as anyone we got the win, but we have to stop playing not to lose because it gave the opponent a chance to win at the end.

You and Les must share a brain. You don't see the possibility of passing for 1st downs and controlling the clock with a balanced attack? Similar to the 1st half?

So a guy missing or making a field goal determines whether or not we should've passed more?

Honestly, that's a terrible take.
When you rush for 5.7 yards per carry, you should win going away. We didn't need to throw it 30 times. There was a kick in the air to beat us. That's a crazy thought when you rush it for 5.7/carry.
We did need to be willing to throw it on early downs while we were up by 8+ points (very little to lose) to keep the defense honest and to take advantage of the defense rolling 8 in the box.
You've really displayed your ignorance in this thread.

Last night, the Tigers ran the ball and won.
Maybe you should consider sharing a brain sometime.

We definitely should have thrown it more. You have to have some semblance of balance to win a championship. 14 passes (nearly all of which were swings, screens, and spot passes within 10 yards) to ~48 rushing plays is not a balanced attack.
I get that they wanted to ease Harris into the starting role and to protect him a bit. But the dude looked sharp. They're going to have to take the goddamned handcuffs off.

What was our 3rd down conversion rate due to run run pass long? How many 1st downs did we have vs MSST?
Why did we stop allowing Harris to make a read? a lot of that avg you speak of was due to his big runs. We all saw a glance of what LSU was capable of in the first half. We all know they could have easily dominated this game if they played the same way throughout. So why bottle it up and allow your offense to watch helplessly on the sidelines with teh MS ST kicker trying to win the game?

Most folks on here thibking a lot of the fan base wants "moar passing" is pretty misled. Speaking for myself, I just want to see some kind of creativity, unpredictability, and balance to the offense. When your successful pounding the ball, sure go for it. But hey when they bring all 11 guys into the box, how about a PA pass? There's just no adjustment whatsoever in the playcalling.
Not to mention, the run, run, pass combo was putting Harris in constant 3rd and 10 or longer. Which for a coaching staff so scared to call a 1st or 2nd down pass blows my mind they'd rather put him in such predictable situations.

A win is a win but if you think that abortion of a game plan is gonna work all year, you need a lobotomy and I'll be glad to set up some kind of account to help you pay for it.
