The NFL has to be the worst league in terms of actions that affect PR.

NFL makes the Steelers the sacrificial lamb next Thursday...
Brady back, Bell and Bryant out, and Pouncey hurt.
Steelers will have to score 40 to have a chance.

I always wondered what type of scandal would put a huge dent in the NFL's popularity....

That's b/c anyone that actually read the report can tell that Wells started with the conclusion that Brady was guilty and then he built a case to support himself and the NFl. There was nothing independent about that investigation.

Goodell is a joke. Tom Brady knew something about the deflated footballs. The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to get blasted next Thursday night.

They just said on SportsCenter that the NFL will appeal.
But that they won't try to fight to suspend Brady anymore? Does that make any sense?

I think that just means they won't file for am injunction to stop him from playing

Maybe I'm completely clueless on this, but if a judge overturned the suspension how can the NFL appeal that?
This sounds completely stupid to me.

In other words Brady can play during the appeal, but the NFL will still fight to suspend Brady for four games. The games just wouldn't be the first 4 of this season.

US District Courts < US Appeals Courts < US Supreme Court
