Shot by a relative in SC. 194lbs, 20 1/2" outside spread. Thought the OB might be intetested in seeing a good deer in velvet.
Pictures like this tempt me to get back into deer hunting.

This, especially in the south. Is this bow or gun season?

That's a handsome deer. Always wanted to shoot a deer in velvet.

That is nice.....I have not even hung bow stands yet.....could not fathom an early shoot like that.

That deer has been through a couple ruts before. He was spreading the love.

shot in August?

May be a dumb question, but if that guy were to mount that deer, would the velvet eventually peel off, or is there something the taxidermist can do to preserve it?

Just looked up the SC regs. Zone 3 (where OP said this buck was killed) is open to hunting on private lands on Aug 15. Damn that is early. They must have the northern strain of deer there.

quote:Yeah...it's deer season out here in CA. Hot as frick outside and doesn't "feel" like deer season. Ours have lost all their velvet though.

No mosquitoes thankfully. Just rattle snakes and mountain lions.
