A former Oregon State student is suing Mike Riley and Oregon State under Title IX for sexually violent culture for $7.5 million

Interesting facts of the suit:
The alleged rape occurred in 1999.
No one was arrested since it was never reported to the police.
Mike Riley wasn't Oregon State's coach in 1999 (Chargers HC)
The alleged perpetrator wasn't a football player at OSU, he wasn't even a student at Oregon State.
It is alleged that he was a cousin to one of the players who came up from Portland for the weekend.

quote:

The woman had attended a party at an off-campus apartment when a young man approached her with an open can of beer saying he was visiting the Corvallis campus and was down from Portland.

"She took two drinks of the beer and then became woozy and fuzzy-headed," according to her complaint filed Monday in Eugene's U.S. District Court. She vomited and the man escorted her to an apartment in the 1400 block of Northwest 20th Street, where some OSU football players allegedly lived.

She passed out and regained consciousness in a bedroom with OSU football jerseys and team photos on the walls.

"She was being sexually assaulted by the young man who had offered her the beer," the suit says. "She was unable to move her arms or legs to fight back. She faded back out of consciousness."

She woke the next morning naked and alone in the same bed where the assault occurred, she alleges. She dressed and fled the apartment.

A day or two later, she reported being raped to a sexual assault counselor at OSU's Student Health Services, the lawsuit says. She accuses the counselor of suggesting that she had perhaps said "yes" to the man and that she shouldn't have been drinking.
The encounter with the counselor dissuaded the student "from seeking any further help from OSU, and consequently did nothing more to hold her perpetrator accountable for his crime," the lawsuit alleges.

"After the rape and OSU's hostile response," the complaint says, the woman wasn't able to continue her studies. The lawsuit does not make clear what has happened to the woman in recent years.

Why did Nebraska hire a mediocre 62 year old coach?

You try getting prospects to come to Corvallis and see how successful you would be.

Dennis Erickson did it.

Riley is a mediocre hire for a program like Nebraska.

I want to see how he does with his recruiting classes here. I'm expecting 7 wins this season. It's a transition year.

I don't think you realize how far Nebraska has fallen on a national scale.

Also, in today's age of CFB. Oregon St. is the equivalent of Miss St in the SEC or Texas Tech in the Big 12

He's perfectly competent and can get them to 9 wins a season, which we already know they hate.

The main thing is he's old as frick. They'll be looking for another coach relatively soon even if he's decent.

Erickson won his first two years with Riley's players. In years 3&4, Erickson(final two) he went 5-6 & 8-5

I think the fanbase accepts 9 win seasons. But they want a submissive HC. Not a hothead.

Point taken. That said, they are still Nebraska and they have sold out every game since 1962. Yes, their recruiting grounds suck, but they are a program that has national recognition and has no business being mediocre.

Nebraska is in the same breath as Notre Dame as an all-time program, they should not settle for a guy like Mike Riley IMO.

Chad Johnson and TJ Houshmanzadeh were both Erickson recruits. Ken Simonton was Riley, though.

Most of the best players on that 2000 team were Erickson's guys. He brought in a ton of jucos. Simonton being the notable exception but Chad Johnson, Housh, Dennis Weathersby, Nick Barnett were Erickson's guys.
