I am happy. Good job, good health, surrounded by loved ones...
What exactly am I missing out on?

Something doesn't compute here.

I' been gone almost 12 years. I love to go home to eat and see football games, but don't miss the heat and humidity!

The number of down votes I received is downright appalling.

Yeah, it made me pretty happy to see them all, too.
Oh wait, you wrote appalling. I thought it was appealing.

Trying to make it in little big town is a fools wager. Avoiding the big city today is robbing your kids of success tomorrow. That's what I think.
Good for anyone who can pay for themselves and kids college education in the town they're from. I cant so I left my town in Alabama.

I had to leave. Wages were not keeping up with the actual cost of living rise. Insurance was going up exponentially. My agent explained it to me that I had to pay higher rates to cover those who refused to carry insurance.
Every time I turned around there was a new government agency with their hand out, wanting more and more for less.
Ticket quotas, or un-voted on taxes, pushed me over the edge. I got about six chicken shite tickets in a little over a month. I put my house up for sale and found a job out of state and moved.
Louisiana has good people, food, traditions, family and fishing. Most people that leave have a better life elsewhere. They are surprised how quickly they adapt to the new places they land in.
Celery, onions, and garlic can be bought everywhere. Roux smells the same.

Roads, education, and healthcare are absolutely abysmal in LA.
That all depends on where you live and how much money you have, and how hard you want to work and earn a living.
I went to a phenomenal high school, I have an undergrad from LSU, a law degree from Loyola, and I'll be getting an MBA from UNO.
We have nationally recognized Elementary, high school, med school, law school, and colleges.
We have some of the best food in the world and the people here are genuine. Truely mixed neighborhoods exist here. We're a melting pot. We have a massive influx of young talent and businesses. We have old money and establishelment. We have poor and middle class and upper class and they all live within blocks of each other all over the city.
There are plenty of reasons to live in nola. And life is not all about garnering the most money possible without regard for anything else.
How long will friends and family enjoy living near each other? What kind of a stupid fricking question is that? You're knocking a city and its people because they genuinely like being together? This is new Orleans. When you're here, your family. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Who dat?!
How's ya momma and them?
Bet I can tell you where you got them shoes.
Nola or leave. Dr. Bob.
To sum up:
Go frick yourself, I'll stay in my city, I'll defend it till I die, and as much as I hate you, I'll give you a beer, a handshake, and a bowl a jambalaya if you come by my house or my tailgate because I'm a neworleanian, and I love my city and I'll ways show a stranger some hospitality and a good time.
