they received fire and...not knowing how many were in the house and how heavily armed...they called in SWAT.
look...i know theres a lot of cop haters on this board but this is just a stupid argument. situations like this are exactly why there are SWAT teams. dude killes 8 people...5 kids..and y'all are already making the cops out to be the bad guys ridiculous

Typical OT cop hater bullshite response. Police investigate something and shoot someone. Cops are bad. Shouldn't have been there.
Police don't push the guy. They should have gone in guns a blazing.
Just admit that, no matter what they do, you are going to criticize from the safety of your keyboard. Might as well pontificate about how they don't need SWAT or armored vehicles too.

I'm not a cop hater, but did they know everyone was already dead? They get paid to dangerous shite. I don't like the idea of swat teams anyway. For situations like this they never get there on time and they end up only being used for drug warrants. It's a waste of money.

Stick to criticizing the military. At least you know something about that.

probably not...then you have a hostage situation.

I think we all know (and are in agreement about) who the bad guy is here.

You make payments to the Houston police department?
Posted on 8/9/15 at 9:55 am to Paige
I'm sure they get plenty of grants from the federal governemnt specifically for swat teams in the name of counter terrorism, so yeah, probably.
Not sure what your point is anyway

No. You didn't read the post at all and just started talking shite on the cops. Then got called out

You didn't criticize swat. You criticized the regular cops and asked what you pay them for
I don't see where they didn't do their job

Which part of Houston was this in?

Well if they didn't have swat as a crutch they probably would've gone in. Look, I know it's a dangerous thing to ask them to do, and it probably wouldn't have helped in this situation anyway other than they would have ended up killing this a-hole and we wouldn't have to spend money on his trial and a lifetime of incarceration. But I bet there are hundreds of similar situations each year where if the beat cops would have taken the risk and gone in instead of waiting for swat they could have saved some lives.
I'd rather the money spent on swat be spent on more training for regular cops.

A swaf team is absolutely necessary for this situation. A group of 4 patrol cops is just going to go in and seriously frick something up. They don't really have training for that sort of thing. And you need to act so perfectly you need a highly trained tactical unit that has been trained, is experienced working togeather, and has the right tools for the situation.

Swat teams frick up all the time. And yeah, a highly experienced unit with experience working together is ideal, but in situations like this it's almost always better to go in quickly rather than wait for the ideal.

Is there any evidence anyone was alive other than the murderer? I don't understand why people want the cops to just rush into a home. It makes sense in a school or mall but in a small structure there is little chance lives are saved by rushing in. It's why prior to columbine cops were always told to wait on back up.

Are you stupid or something?
Cops look through window, see a body on the floor. Cops try to go in and gunman starts shooting at them. Cops call in SWAT to deal with the situation. SWAT shows up, gunman surrenders. After house is cleared the cops discover 8 dead in the house.
How hard is that to understand?

I understand it. But IMO they had evidence that he was obviously dangerous and willing to kill. I know it's risky, but I think you gotta press on and get the guy. Basically I'm asking them to put the lives of the citizens over their own lives.
