I think everyone - including me, earlier - is giving this random stranger way too much shite for having his son live at home his first semester. Maybe it's the son's choice. Maybe they pulled all their resources together and can only afford tuition and books. He's not going to BRCC; he's going to the state's flagship university (hopefully majoring in something other than liberal arts). So he has to start out at home. There are many worse alternatives.

I lived like a king during my nine years of school in Baton Rouge and now have the student loan payments to prove it.

Im just stating from first hand experience. I did it my first semester and it sucked balls. School felt like work and not like a whole new community with a social life.
