Home warranty companies

I couldn't find the OT poor board so I came here.
What are the better home warranty companies out there? The most popular one appears to be American Home Shield. Most of the online reivews, regardless of company, all have 70-80% good reviews with a smaller portion saying they'd never use this company again...didn't handle my claim right...etc.
Anyone care to share their good or bad experiences with a particular company?

We have Old Republic for our home and we just renewed for another year. In the first year we only used it once, but for two items: repaired the water heater and replaced garbage disposal for a single $60 service fee. If it weren't for our HVAC being 15 years old, we would not have renewed it for a second year, but we are hoping it finally craps out soon.
So, for the one time we used it last year, it was convenient; however, I don't think the $425 yearly fee plus $60 service fee balanced out the work we had done. If the HVAC craps out though, then it would work to our advantage.
How old is the home?

I had a pretty bad experience with American Home Shield to say the least. I am not sure which is worse; AHS or there "contractors".
Basically I had an AC inside unit go out and needless to say the total that I would've had to come out of pocket roughly $1800 because of "non-covered items (I.e- refrigerant, brackets for ac to sit on, basically everything the is not the air handler)" was just about the cost of an entire unit from a non-certified contractor, or as we know it, the free market bidding/best value.. So with the nearly the same cost I chose the "buy out" option which essentially give me money for what the parts would cost($900) and I had an outside company to do it. And just as a note, in order to get the money you have to harass the hell out of them to get a check.
As you would probably expect, I did not renew and feel as though it was a great call thus far.

People get pissed at home warranty companies because they think just because they're A/C isn't cooling properly it means they'll get a whole new system installed. That's not how it works. We have American Home Shield and have been nothing but pleased. They've paid for a new dishwasher, pool pump, 2 ceiling fans, garbage disposal and garage door opener in the last few years. Each time it's cost me $75. I've never had any issues with them. The pool pump took a few times to get a new one. They came out a few times in a few weeks and tried different seals and gaskets. It was all under the same $75 claim though.

American Home Shield - bad experience
One Guard - good experiences
Just remember that their ultimate goal is to minimize their payouts.
