Because you don't know how to hunt around and find deals on them. I buy piles of decoys every year and always find good deals and i never buy them by the 6pack. FYI decoy companies should be kicked in the nuts for selling by the 6 pack, probably the dumbest thing ever started.

I hunt with a guy who designs these...he told me about how there's like 25 different paint colors and how they paint them one color at a time down a production line. I asked about if he thinks it's necessary to paint all the colors...can the ducks even see them or what..sounds like it's more about impressing the hunter than fooling the duck :)

I have yet to encounter a new duck hunter that started because of duck dynasty

Do more people go to redneck bars because of party down south?

Sorry for the thread hijack, but I just moved to OKC. Don't suppose I could get some Oklahoma waterfowl pointers from you? Or hell, just meet up to shoot the bull and drink a beer? Aren't too many tiger fans in OKC.

It's not new duck hunters because of the DD. It's because DD capitalized (to an extent) and now other companies are going to capitalize off the success of DD.

My wife finds a bunch every year at antique shops. Women unload all of their husbands crap after he passes and the decoys go with it. She get them cheap as hell and I use the good ones. I guess I need to tell her what to look for when she is shopping.

Buy a couple of dozens dekes and mix em with a dozen or so jugs. Buddy of mine would get tar from paving companies and cut it with gas/diesel or something and heat it up, and dip the jugs in it when the tar melted. Says it stays on longer than black spray paint. I used clorox jugs once for goose decoys before. Had a speck land right in the middle of em. Just had a black slash painted on either side.

Bro in law just purchased Dakota brand dekes for our blind @ $190/dozen. I told him he has lost his mind for sure now. Dekes are stupid expensive along with everything else that goes with duck hunting sad to say.

I really like their dekes. I stopped by their facility in Hennryetta and talked to the 2nd or 3rd generation owner in the showroom. He was an awesome old man to talk to about duck hunting and decoys. He explained why his decoys are better and said flocking is a waste for ducks, but not geese.

Also their butt motion decoys look really really good (at least in the kiddie pool in the showroom).

Does painting 2 liter bottles work for creating a big spread?

ime this works but only when you're making a huge spread and the ratio is like 1 bottle:10 decoys

I always painted them just matte finish black.
