I've seen a lot of that suddenly in my neighborhood. Luckily not in my yard (yet).

Nope and nope. On sewer. It's not a low spot in the yard either.

Either a fungus or some time of bug.
What type of grass?

Whatever sod the builder put down. Mainly centipede & St. Aug I'm guessing.

Chinch bugs? They usually come out when it gets real hot.

Mine only does it when it is hot and dry and only in certain small areas - I am not sure if my water is missing it or if the grass type is mixed in certain areas and it doesn't like the heat. or someone dumped some gas on it...

I'm not sure what it is...but it has popped up in my yard as well. I have several spots that look exactly like that that I have never had before. Looking around my 'hood, I see more brown in my neighbors' yards too so maybe it is just the intense heat???

The heat combined with intense rains the past couple days, that spot was probably really dry the rain shocked it.

Grab a handful of that dead grass and pull it up, also comb through it.

You will probably see chinch bugs crawling around.

I have one of those in my yard, and a bunch of folks in my subdivision have this as well. We didn't have this until some contractors came by and worked on some type of utility in our front yard.

Holy shite. I went home yesterday and had a large spot like this in my backyard. I have no idea what could have caused it. On my way to work this morning I noticed quite a few yards in my neighborhood had spots as well.

If it's chinch bugs you'll know, because the rest of the yard will be dead shortly unless you spray the hell out of it. Little frickers killed all of my st. Augustine back in the Bossier Parish drought of 07.

Do you or your neighbors have dogs?? That may be the puss spot. It will kill grass, and the all want to piss in the same spot..

Sun makes the tank hot that is what makes the grass above and around the edges of the tank die..

The fricked mine up good last year.

I had one small dead spot and they moved in on that and never let up.
