I want to make a deal to improve the team I just really don't think Ross or Cashner is much of an upgrade over McHugh or McCullers. I guess it would add depth and help limit McCullers innings down the stretch run.
Kimbrel on the other hand helps a lot. Neshek / Gregerson / Kimbrel would be awesome with Sipp / Harris as situation guys, or bullpen would be as good as the Royals and Yankees.

Ross is really, really good. I'd love to see Strom work with him to even take him up another notch. Perhaps he can help Ross figure out how to use his 4-seamer again effectively. Even as is, the guy has become a groundball machine.

Ross would be an awesome addition to this staff. High K rate and high ground ball rate (Dallas-light, if you will) plus under team control for a couple of more seasons after this year. Just read an article that was written before this season about his contract that said his next big extension will probably be in the 5 year, $55 million range (something in line with the gio Gonzalez and matt Harrison contracts that they are in now).
So not only is he a very good starter (3.7 era away from San Diego the last two seasons and getting better), but he is very affordable for the next 5-7 years. Thats why the padres are asking a lot in return for him.
