You gotta hang a guy like this to make an example. North charleston guy too.
The apologists here are ridiculous. They're hiding behind these hypotheticals that do nothing to address the fact that this guys best option was to duck and roll away from the window if he thought it was getting bad. He was not in a "lethal force authorized" state of danger by a mile.
A cops job isn't to blast whenever a minimum threshold of threat is met ( to be clear, that threshold was not here).
We deserve and should expect cops with an ounce judgment. This is an example of a guy who feels he can waste someone for the slightest reason and no one to question him.
That's not the country yall want to live in.
Eta. Let me add as personal character testimony that I respect the shite out of law enforcement and am a baby back bitch if I ever interact with one. I'm in favor of body cameras for all cops for the simple reason that my loyalty in this issue is to justice and fairness- not with the cop and not as an anti-establishment pain in the arse mentality.

Wonder how many of these petty guys you speak of so loosely have shot cops? You guys don't get it do you a cops job and life can be over in an instance. You don't just hey man this guy looks like good dude you just never know. No condoning the shooting but no licenses, alcohol in vehicle I go on high alert.
Eta: an starts the car
Go on high alert all the frick you want. Keep your hands and gun out of his car and call for backup if necessary/available. Ask him to step out of the car instead of trying to open the door to pull him out. Cops aren't the judge, jury, and executioner they seem to think they are.
The use of deadly force to prevent the escape of all felony suspects, whatever the circumstances, is constitutionally unreasonable.

Out of any video with police stops that I have ever seen, I have never seen an officer open a person's vehicle like that, and then proceed to reach into the person's vehicle as well.
But maybe I haven't watched that many if that is indeed normal practice.

He was so aggressive when he pulled over. He walked up and said "what's up man?" Like any normal person. Asked him where he lives at, etc. only got ugly when the perp started acting like a shithead.

Asking useless questions, asking about his alcohol, being rude in general. What about that is okay to you? He pulled out his gun and tried to open the guys car door, I certainly think that qualifies as "aggressive".

quote:Well then maybe you should learn more about it. It's bad enough that you think that calling his actions "asinine" is unheard of for a DA, thinking that it would be enough justification for a civil suit is just ridiculous. That doesn't even consider that DA's typically have "prosecutorial immunity" that extends to things that can be quite egregious.

I mean honestly, this is why the entire situation is so perplexing to me. Both parties seemed calm throughout the entire interaction until the officer tried to open the door. Man turned over the alcohol, admitted he didn't have an ID, and then was going to drive off (and deserved to be arrested for attempting to elude an officer). But when did the officer feel like he was such a threat, he needed to be killed?

This.
The fact that his first action was to pull the gun out and fire at the dude's head says a lot about him. Hope the jackass sits in prison for a long time. The last thing we need on the streets are trigger-happy cops. And i support the police. Just not people like this who are looking to make trouble and/or do not know how to handle it

bullshite.
The dude was just saying he didn't know where his license was and was questioning why he was pulled over. the cop starts pulling open the door without warning

Your victim broke the law and paid the ultimate price for it. If he would have listened to the cop he'd still be alive. You would think after 78 prior arrest he would know the drill but I guess not.

Regardless, he did pay the ultimate price, and one that was undeserved, which is why the officer has been indicted on charges. Your pointless, illogical hypotheticals have nothing to do with what actually happened.
