Two together wouldn't be them. No way for two LJs to float that far together

Yeah, I don't see how the life jackets would be found together like that unless
- there were only two life jackets on the boat and they happened to be tied together for storage purposes(allowing them to remain together while floating away after the boat sank)
-the boys actually did survive and sent them into the water after making land in hopes of a aircraft or boat going by, seeing the life jackets and beginning to search that area for them.

I doubt there's anywhere on the east coast where you're not within hailing distance of civilization. If they made landfall we'd have heard from them directly. Even if they were in no shape to walk, some fisherman or beachcomber would have come up on them.

That's sort of what I assumed, but I don't know the coast down there at all.
Is it commonplace to tie LJs together on a boat? I've never done much boating and what I have done was when I was much younger.
