For apartments check out www.parisbestlodge.com . We have rented from them twice and have had good experiences. The nicest hotel we have stayed at there was the Westin a block from Place Vendome. It can be expensive but we got a great rate over the internet.

I'm taking the GF to Rome in Sept. 8 day trip. How many days did y'all stay in Rome?

We have been to Rome several times and usually stay for an average of about four days. We always combine someplace else with Rome.

Rome + Florence is a great week trip.

If your 8 days includes travel days, you might want to just spend the whole time in Rome. If you have never been before you will not run out of things to see or do. If you have 8 full days on the ground, you might want to venture out.

I'd go to Paris. Haven't been in a long time, but a friend and her husband have gone often. They say an apt is definitely the way to go without question. They've done both.

Florence is the most likely choice. Venice is farther away, but it is one of the most beautiful and unique places imaginable. The Amalfi Coast is spectacular. In April of last year we stayed in Positano for a week then took the high speed train to Rome for Easter.

For me Rome. I speak Italian and have some cousins that live there who I will be visiting in May. Makes it easier for us to have a great food experience because we'll either be going to local only places or eating at my cousin's who is a great cook. Unfortunately that is me just between those two cities staying in my comfort zone. Would probably chose Paris over any other European city.
