A friend of mine will be filing her Judgment of Divorce paperwork with the courthouse soon, and will then have to go in front of the Judge (or lawyer) to finalize everything. All paperwork has been filed properly, including the agreement of assets and waiver of service from the former spouse.

Her personality is one that is a little shy and nervous, and she is wondering what questions they will ask her during this hearing. I will be going through the exact same process soon, and I guess I'm curious.

I told her it will more than likely be very basic questions, but was wondering if anyone here could share some of the questions they were asked?

My guesses:
1. Date of Marriage and Where
2. Who left who and what date was move out
3. Where you were married
4. Reason for divorce
5. Was separation continuous
6. Can it be reconciled

Any help is much appreciated.

I didn't even go to court for mine. We used the same lawyer, and the ex and a family friend went.

Did it with my ex and an agreed upon attorney. Neither of us set foot in court. Total cost including judgment of money, 50-50 kid time, property, etc. was $1,200, which we split.

which is why the OP's friend should hire an atty to make sure it is done right instead of asking on a message board.

Mine went through so smoothly we never even had to see the inside of a courthouse. We met with my lawyer, came to an agreement, signed the papers. Then later on signed some more papers. I came out smelling like a rose.

Cost me a grand total of $350.00. 50/50 custody. The house. The car. No alimony. No Child support.

An attorney isn't needed all the time when it is an amicable agreement and there are no kids or property to divvy up. Had there been, I totally agree with you.

But two intelligent people can complete a non-contested divorce if both parties are in agreement with everything and all proper paperwork is completed, notarized, and filed.

I say this because my ex-wife and I are doing the same thing and the entire process has been rather peaceful for a divorce. But I realize we are an exception to this.

DIL is a lawyer. The other son and his slut wife just went through it. Both say there is nothing to it. I don't know details but it's uncontested. If there are any questions they will be simple law explanations and then she/you will be asked if you understand what you agree to. Even with my grand kids involved it was fast and simple and done in the lawyer's office.

I guess when you are broke and have to share a car there isn't much threat of alimony and child support.

Nothin from nothin leaves nothin. Amirite?

If a second lawyer gets involved it will most certainly no longer be amicable. That's what they get paid for.

The nicer car. And yeah I was an emotional wreck. But financially I came out great.

Of course the rest of my world came crashing down shortly after so it didn't really matter.

Sorry, I meant in about a week it will be my turn to file the Judgment of Divorce form with the clerk of court. Everything else has been signed, notarized, and approved. Even spoke with the judge's office and she confirmed everything was filed properly.
